The Chargers advanced in overtime, 53-51.
After a slow start, where the Chargers were tied with the Dutch at 20 in the second quarter, Auburn signee Trey Alexander Trey Alexander 6'4" | SG Oklahoma City Heritage | 2021 State #55 Nation OK fueled a 25-6 run, putting Heritage Hall up 19 points towards the third quarter. But at the start of the fourth quarter, Holland Hall’s Marc Gouldsby completely locked up Alexander, holding him scoreless through regulation and forced OT.
Tied up at 51, with 20 seconds remaining in the game, it looked like there would be a second overtime. That’s when Alexander drove right, put up a floater that was partially blocked, and C.J. Smith got the offensive rebound and put-back at the buzzer to win the game for the Chargers.
Alexander scored 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 6-of-11 from three. Heritage Hall’s Melvin Swindle scored 9 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
Gouldsby led the Dutch in scoring with 14 points, and Carter Benton scored 12 points off the bench.
The Chargers will advance to the second State semifinals to play the winner of Daniel Webster – Victory Christian.
