There have been some solid performers in the 5A class that has led their teams to victory and some that have come up just a bit short. Nonetheless, we acknowledge some of the class’s top wings from a very entertaining regular season.
Andrew Scott Andrew Scott 6'4" | SG Silver Creek | 2022 State CO – Silver Creek
There were high expectations for Andrew Scott Andrew Scott 6'4" | SG Silver Creek | 2022 State CO heading into his junior campaign and the 6’4 wing has lived up to those expectations. Scott has been on varsity since his freshman season and has only continued to progress. He went from a role player that shined at times to now the focal point for opposing teams to slow down. Scott has still managed to find a way to produce and lead his team and has stepped up in big games. Silver Creek is 9-3 on the season and has had some explosive games from their leading scorer. Scott is averaging 16.4 points and 6.3 rebounds a game and had a career-best game of 30 points in a close win over Holy Family a week ago. Scott looks to be in a groove and has his team playing well, and the Raptors will need their best player stepping up if they want to make a deep playoffs push as he has been doing all season long.
Jackson Kroll – Brighton
Kroll is a player that has gone a bit overlooked on the year but has been playing well. Kroll is a bright spot for the Bulldogs as the 6’3 wing has been asked to do it all and has come through. Kroll is one of the few players on the team that can create for himself off the dribble; he can attack in isos and get through the opposing team’s presses. He is a consistent scorer for the team at 12.6 points a game with 5.5 boards to go along with it and has been a player that his teammates can count on each game. He will surely have to continue working on his game, but his work this season should not go overlooked.
Kyle Sandler Kyle Sandler 6'7" | SF Hargrave Military Academy | 2022 State CO – Regis
Sandler is one of the state’s top two-way threats that consistently gets the job done and has made the Raiders one of the state’s tougher teams. He has excellent size and can defend multiple positions with his 6’5 frame, and can light it up from time to time. Sandler is one of the best knockdown shooters in the state that shoots an absurd 56% (20-of-36) from beyond the arc. He is incredible in catch and shoot situations, making it so that opposing teams cannot zone against Regis and get to the rim and finish as well. Sandler is putting up 14.9 points and 7.1 rebounds a game, uses all of his frame and size to create mismatches, and his willingness to defend opens up different opportunities for his teammates and makes him one of the unique players in the class. A solid year for him.
Mostapha Elmoutaouakkil Mostapha Elmoutaouakkil 6'4" | SF Eaglecrest | 2022 State CO – Eaglecrest
Mostapha was a player that jumped onto the scene this year and looks to be a complete player. He has an excellent feel for the game, is a versatile player and defender, and uses his body well. Mostapha has his way inside but can open up the floor with his shooting as he is shooting 39% from beyond the arc. He has a college-ready body and uses his 6’4 frame well. On an Eaglecrest team that does not lack in size, he found his role early on and has been a welcomed addition to the team. He is used well, fills holes, runs the passing lanes well, and is a glass-cleaner that can put the ball on the floor and start the break by himself. Elmoutaouakkil put up 12.5 points and a team-high 7.1 rebound a game to go along with it in his junior campaign. He’s proven he belongs and will be an interesting prospect to watch moving forward that had one of the best seasons in the Centennial League.
Joey Bilello Joey Bilello 6'8" | SF Thunderridge | 2022 State CO – ThunderRidge
Bilello is the piece that holds together one of the best teams in the entire state. He’s a player that does not have many weaknesses and is willing to do whatever is asked of him. He’s a hard worker that can put the ball on the floor, shoot the deep ball as well as go inside and work. He’s a versatile defender that challenges himself, and his work on the boards has him as a player that you cannot bring off of the court. Bilello put up 11 points and four rebounds a game in his junior year on one of the better frontcourts in the state. He was able to play multiple positions and is an X-factor that does plenty of things that go beyond the scoreboard.
