Continue ReadingTonight we are continuing coverage of the top performances from the week of the state tournament. With more action on Friday, we continue to saw dominant performances across the board and some heroics light up the basketball courts. Here are some more standouts.
Jacob Hanna Jacob Hanna 6'3" | CG Andover | 2021 State KS , 6’4 Guard, Maize, 2021 (Pictured): In a dominant win over a guard loaded KC Washington, Hanna put on a top notch performance that was much needed especially with talented back court mate Kyle Grill Kyle Grill 6'4" | CG Maize | 2022 State KS in foul trouble. Hanna went 1 of 2 from 3, and an efficient 8 of 13 from the field to finish with a team high 17 points. He has great length and athletic talent, and his ability to get high quality shots is something that next level coaches will love. He is also versatile on the defensive side of the floor and his longer arms effect the game.
Winston Bing Winston Bing 6'1" | CG Maize | 2021 State KS , 6’1 Guard, Maize, 2021: Bing has been the designated knock down 3 point shooter for Maize all year knocing them down at a 41% clip at roughly 9 points per game. Against KC Washington he was the ultimate knock down man, hitting them off catch and shoots, when the defense was scrambling, and on drive and kick situations. He finished 5 of 7 from 3 for 15 points. Bing also knows how to effect the game in other ways as well, averaging 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and over a steal per game.
Emmitt Jueneman Emmitt Jueneman 6'1" | SF Hanover | 2022 State KS , 6’2 Guard/Wing, Hanover, 2022: The athletic multi tooled wing has grown his game big time and has become one of the most improved players from the summer season until now across not only the 1A landscape, but in Kansas. He has put on a highlight tape of breakaway plays in just this playoff run alone, and got up for a 2 hand dunk on the break in Hanover’s semi final win on Friday. Jueneman continues to transition himself from an athletic 3 and D wing, to a kid who can get his own off the bounce and score in a large variety of ways. Always the stat line stuffer, he finished with 22 points 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals in the semi final win.
Trayon Grant Trayon Grant 6'4" | SG KC Washington | 2021 State KS , 6’4 Guard, KC Washington, 2021: Grant was one of our feature players to watch in the final 4 for 5A and he lived up to the billing, albeit in a loss to a dominant Maize team. Grant showed his scoring prowess and his ability to use his length and skill with the ball to get to his spots and score the ball. He put a lot of pressure at the rim as well getting 6 foul shots and making 5 of them.
Blake Hynek, 6’4 Forward, Hanover, 2021: The “big” for Hanover had himself a great semi final performance finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds in the win. He plays extremely hard, moves well, and has soft touch with both hands. He can run the floor and play up tempo with the athletic wings of Hanover and finishes a lot of dump down layups for his guys. He has been a threat at posting double doubles each game, don’t be surprised if he gets one in the championship game.
Cason Richardson Cason Richardson 6'2" | CG Hesston | 2022 State KS , 6’3 Guard, Hesston, 2022: In probably the performance of the night, that athletic and extremely talented Richardson went off in their semi final win over TMP, dropping 36 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He was an outstanding 12 of 18 from the field including 2 three balls, one coming to put a threatening TMP run at bay. Richardson has big time clutch play potential and he showed it tonight making big play after big play late in the game to secure the win to head on to the title game. Richardson’s ability to attack off the bounce, make scramble plays, and hit shots in the mid range and float game were highlighted in this state contest.
