The Eagles had too much firepower tonight and the Packers could not stay with them. Davies punched their ticket to the State Tournament. They will play WF Sheyenne Saturday night in the championship game. West Fargo will play Wahpeton Saturday evening and the winning team will qualify for the State Tournament.
Here are the top players from tonight’s game:
1. Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-0 G| Fargo Davies – 34 pts, 3 triples, and 5-7 FT’s. He was hands down the best player on the court tonight. This is the best I have watched him play. Ian was in “attack-mode” all game and the Packers could not keep him out of the lane. His 3-pointers came from the left-corner, top of the key, and the right-wing from college depth. He had so many impressive finishes tonight I could not write them all down. Ian had a crazy finish in the first half from an awkward angle that required him to put a ton of spin on the ball and somehow, he made it. He had a sick finish with a big body in front of him and he somehow bent his body to get the shot off and in. His hesitation move looked excellent again tonight. Ian showed a great step move tonight that he finished with a cold-blooded jumper. He was able to get to the rim with ease tonight. Ian put on a show with his acrobatic and crafty finishes. He was simply a stud tonight.
2. Owen Hektner Owen Hektner 6'6" | SF Fargo Davies | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-7 F| Fargo Davies – 21 pts, 3 triples, and 4-5 FT’s. This is the best I have seen Owen play. First and foremost, he was excellent on defense. I loved that he was aggressive, and he did settle for jump shots. Owen still shot it well, but he hurt WF inside. His 3-pointers came from the top of the key, the left-wing, and the left-wing off a sweet step-back move. He had three “AND 1’s” tonight. Owen showed great strength and balance while doing so. He was also impressive on the boards.
3. Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-4 G| West Fargo – 20 pts and 6-7 FT’s. He started the scoring for the game with an early layup. He was great early in the game attacking and finishing through contact. He is such a gifted athlete. Carson added another play to his highlight film tonight. To start the second half, he had an open court steal that he finished with a colossal 2-handed slam dunk. I liked his passing and the way he distributed the ball in this game. In the first half, Carson had a smooth hand-back shovel-pass to Pease for a 3-pointer. Against the zone in the second half, he was driving against the zone and found a cutting Birrenkott for an open basket. His court vision and passing ability have evolved over the course of the season.
4. Carter Birrenkott Carter Birrenkott 6'5" | PF West Fargo | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| West Fargo – 19 pts, 1 triple, and 2-2 FT’s. He had a big second half where he scored 13 of his points. His 3-pointer came from the right-wing. Once he gets going to the basket, he is almost impossible to stop. He had many strong physical finishes around the basket with hands in his face. In the second half, Carter made a great play when he jump-stopped, head-faked the defender and finished it with a 5-foot floater. He showed off a cool spin-move late in the game that resulted in an easy 2-points.
5. Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-1 G| West Fargo – 19 pts, 4 triples, and 1-1 FT’s. He was held scoreless in the first half. Brett shot well against the Davies zone in the second half. All his 3-pointers came from extra-deep tonight. He made a left-wing 3 out by the VB-line. Another 3-pointer came from the deep right wing in front of his bench. He made a college range 3 from the top of the key in front of the zone. He made another 3 off a pull-up jumper with a hand in his face from deep. Brett put on a 3-point shooting clinic in the second half.
6. Latrel Davis Latrel Davis 6'6" | SF Fargo Davies | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-3 G| Fargo Davies – 14 pts, 2 triples, and 2-2 FT’s. He scored the first basket of the game for the Eagles off an O-board put-back. Latrel looked as athletic as ever tonight. He is electric and smooth in transition. Latrel had a crafty reverse layup in the second half. Both of his 3-pointer came in the first half and 10 of his 14-points also came in the first half.
7. Joel Pease Joel Pease 6'5" | SF West Fargo | 2021 State ND (2021) |6-5 F| West Fargo – 13 pts, 2 triples, and 3-3 FT’s. He had an excellent first half where he scored 11 of his points. Joel had a nice cutting “AND 1” basket in the first half that he finished with a FT. He blocked a shot early in the game. I really liked his 3-pointer off a hand-back in the first half. His other 3-pointer came from the top of the key. Joel made a tough reverse layup in traffic.
8. Raymond Brown Raymond Brown 5'11" | PG Fargo Davies | 2023 State ND (2023) |5-11 G| Fargo Davies – 11 pts, 2 triples, and 3-4 FT’s. I love his hustle and energy. When there is a loose ball it seems like he always comes up with it. Raymond looks to be a reliable and confident FT-shooter. His 3-point shot looked good tonight. I liked his effort on the O-boards.
9. Jacob Prudhomme (2021) |6-3 F| Fargo Davies – He did not score in the game. However, his rebounding was excellent and he is a good defender. I like his toughness. He had a nice O-board and an assist immediately afterward to Davis. Jacob also blocked a shot in the game. I think he is an underrated player for the Eagles. Davies has plenty of people that can score. They need rebounding, defense, and toughness from Jacob.
