Another senior is off the board. For Aiden Grady Aiden Grady 6'7" | PF Westview | 2021 State OR , the recruiting process was enjoyable and he picked up interest from a variety of schools. The lean 6-foot-7, 185-pound forward from Westview considered all the pros and cons and when it came down to it, Maine-Fort Kent seemed like the best opportunity for him to grow both on and off the basketball court.
“First off, the coach and I got along really well,” Grady said. “I feel like we were both really honest with each other throughout the recruiting process. As far as basketball, I felt like it was a good fit because they are looking for athletic bigs because they are quite small this year. Both Coach Bird and I think I could help fill that void next season.”
Maine, of course is on the other side of the country from Grady’s Portland home and the majority of his recruiting interest came from West Coast schools. But he maintained an open mind and the more he heard about Maine-Fort Kent and the surroundings, the more things intrigued him.
“When I just started getting recruited for college basketball, I never really had a preference for where I wanted to go, but as time went on I realized I Would enjoy going far away from home,” Grady said. “Obviously Maine is really far away so I’m excited to experience things I’ve never gotten the chance to before in my life!”
Grady possesses a soft touch around the basket, can step away and hit mid-range jumpers, and does a lot of the little things on the floor that sometimes go unnoticed on the stat sheet. He knows that the college level is a big step up and he’s ready to take on the challenge.
“I’m definitely still working on my ball handling and shooting,” Grady said. “I’m gonna be playing more of a big man role for UMFK, so I’m still working on my post skills, and spending time in the weight room getting bigger faster and stronger everyday.”
Grady is the second Westview senior to commit to play hoops in college next season, joining Brady Grier Brady Grier 6'4" | SF Westview | 2021 State OR who signed with Multnomah. Grady currently ranks as the #64 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
