Both of these games featured some high level talent and some really tough, hardworking teams. Here are the scores:
Forest v. Bartow, Class 6A Semifinals, 24-63 Bartow wins
Charlotte v. Mater Academy, Class 6A Semifinals, 53-59 (OT)
Here are the backcourt standouts for the day:
Kjei Parker Kjei Parker 6'1" | CG Bartow | 2023 State FL , Bartow, 6’, 2023
Parker is a lights out shooter and shift guard. The sophomore hit all 3 of his attempts from distance and was lighting up the Wildcats in the first quarter, setting the tone for what would quickly be the beatdown of the tournament thus far. He was an explosive finisher and was able to get in the passing lanes and get steals (5 in the game). He set the pace for an up-tempo, tough Bartow offense that looked as in shape as any team can be. Parker will be the main guy for the Yellow Jackets on Friday as the face Mater Academy in the state finals.
Ryan Sanchez, Mater Academy, 5’10″, 2021
Sanchez is one of the shiftiest, if not the shiftiest, guard in Florida. He was doing the most for a Mater Academy team that really needed him to step up against a great Charlotte squad. He was knocking down impressive threes from everywhere and was cutting up the defense going to the rim. At the end of the game, trying to foul him proved to be a pointless task, since he didn’t miss a single free throw throughout the entire contest. He was the best player on the floor for that game and will try to finish his career with a win over Bartow in the state finals.
John Gamble John Gamble 6'4" | SG Charlotte | 2023 FL , Charlotte, 6’6″, 2023
Gamble is a freak athlete who showed some of the softer parts of his game tonight. He was knocking down midrange jumpers from everywhere as well as finishing strongly around the basket. He is a strong and athletic guard with the ability to put someone in the basket as well as score from inside the arc in a variety of ways. He was a strong defensive threat too, being tasked with guarding Ryan Sanchez as the game progressed. Gamble could develop into one of Florida’s best players and is someone to keep an eye on for the next 2 years.
