Choctawhatchee v. Leesburg, Class 5A Semifinals, 59-58 Choctaw wins
Tampa Jesuit v. Pembroke Pines Charter, Class 5A Semifinals, 57-63 (OT)
Here are the frontcourt standouts for the day:
Joe Pesansky, Tampa Jesuit, 6’4″, 2021
Lord, Pesansky was a surprising threat for Jesuit the entire game. He had the mobility of a guard and the finishing capability of a big man inside. He was able to wheel and deal the entire Pembroke defense multiple times to get some wide open looks on the drive. He was also a good piece of the puzzle for breaking the Pembroke Pines press that they threw at the Tigers towards the end of the game. Pesansky finished the game with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists as the Tigers fell to the Jaguars in a close one.
Camerin James Camerin James 6'5" | CG Leesburg | 2023 State FL , Leesburg, 6’5″, 2023
James is more of a guard than a froncourt player, but at his currently skillset, he’s more of a glorified small forward, so he’s going on this list. James is an explosive young talent. The Apopka transfer put up a fight against a strong Choctaw team and was going to the basket as much as he could throughout the game. His efficiency, both from the field and at the line, drew some concerns, and his shooting is definitely a part of his game that will require some focus. Nevertheless, James has a great build for a sophomore and showed some flashes of elite athleticism throughout the contest. He is the future of Leesburg and will be a huge threat as he continues to mature and develop his game.
Elijah Wyche Elijah Wyche 6'4" | PF Pembroke Pines | 2022 State FL , Pembroke Pines Charter, 6’5″, 2022
Wyche was definitely one of the most talented players I watched today. His ability to finish around the basket was incredible, and he was dicing up the Jesuit defense for 36 (OT) straight minutes. He is a mobile big who is bouncy and in control of his body movements. He has a nice hook shot and the ability to take a one-jump leap towards the basket for easy buckets. He is also an avid dunker and could yam with the best of them. He’s the main man for Pembroke Pines on the inside and he will be the main focus of a big Choctaw team on Friday.
