The semifinals for Class 5A at the FHSAA have concluded. And while the first day of action brought with it a multitude of blowouts and scoring clinics, the second day was more focused on highly contested play, including an overtime thriller. Here’s how the action played out:

Choctawhatchee v. Leesburg, Class 5A Semifinals, 59-58 Choctaw wins

Tampa Jesuit v. Pembroke Pines Charter, Class 5A Semifinals, 57-63 (OT)

Here are the backcourt standouts for the day:

Ryan Weir Ryan Weir 5'11" | SG Jesuit | 2021 State FL , Tampa Jesuit, 6’, 2021

Weir put on a show from distance in the nail biter against Pembroke Pines. The senior guard knocked down 4 threes on 10 attempts on the path to 16 points for the Tigers. He also distributed the ball well and was able to break the press that Pembroke set up for them. Weir definitely went out with a bang, leading a team that was physically outmatched to a very competitive game against a very good Pembroke Pines team. Weir will continue his basketball career with Aquinas College is Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Jamil Bowles Jamil Bowles 6'5" | CG Choctaw | 2021 State FL , Choctawhatchee, 6’5", 2021

Bowles got off to a slow start off the bench for the Indians, but was much more effective down the stretch.
