Bishop McLaughlin v. Andrew Jackson, Class 3A Semifinals, 79-71 Bishop McLaughlin wins
Miami Country Day School v. Calvary Christian Academy, Class 3A Semifinals, 69-51 Calvary wins
Central v. Crossroads Academy, Class 1A Semifinals, 85-63 Central wins
Wildwood v. Madison County, Class 1A Semifinals, 41-62 Wildwood wins
Here are the frontcourt standouts for 3A, Day 1:
Jasai Miles Jasai Miles 6'5" | CG Miami Country Day | 2023 State #241 Nation FL , Miami Country Day, 6’5″, 2023
The sophomore wing showed plenty of things to be excited about for his development. The lanky, tall guard has a nice motor and is able to create some of his own shots. He can get downhill well and is an OK free throw shooter. He has the physical tools to succeed at the next level, but has some things to work on. He needs to tighten his handle and get a better handle on his body movements to increase efficiency. Nevertheless, watching him today solidified that this kid could be a serious threat in a few years.
Dillon Mitchell Dillon Mitchell 6'7" | PF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #38 Nation FL , Bishop McLaughlin, 6’7″, 2021
I’ve been Mitchell’s biggest critic this year, considering I’ve covered him since he was a sophomore and have monitored his development. He silenced all of my criticisms with his performance today. He was aggressive and finished well around the rim, and was just as aggressive on the boards. His sometimes passive tendencies seemed to disappear with the pressure of playing a legit contender in Andrew Jackson. He finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds. He’ll face his toughest interior matchup with Taylor Hendricks Taylor Hendricks 6'9" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #124 Nation FL on Friday vs. Calvary Christian.
Taylor Hendricks Taylor Hendricks 6'9" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #124 Nation FL , Calvary Christian, 6’10″, 2022
I’ve been saying it for a while now: Hendricks has the best midrange jumper of any player in Florida, regardless of position. He is an amazing scorer who can get down on the block and score from distance if necessary. He’s a great combination of strong and athletic, making him a complete big man and overall scorer. He’s also an elite shot blocker, with a good first jump and ability to get to where he needs to for the rejection. He finished with a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with 3 blocks. He’ll be the Eagles go to guy for Friday’s big game.
Gregg Glenn Gregg Glenn 6'7" | PF Calvary Christian (FL) | 2022 State #161 Nation FL , Calvary Christian, 6’8″, 2022
Glenn is the definition of collegiate level body. He’s strong and agile, making him an issue on the block and on the defensive end. He can defend multiple positions with ease, and can jump and contest shots with the best of them. On offense, his jumper is unreliable, but when he’s feeling it, he can be a menace in the paint and on the drive. It’s hard to slow him down on offense since his freight train-esque frame is intimidating for even the strongest of defenders. He’s a great 3rd/4th offense option and his success usually correlates to a win for the Eagles, so we’ll see if he can be an offensive presence against Bishop McLaughlin on Friday.
