A few interesting items stand out from the selection of the top players across all classes, as well as the teams chosen by classification.
Here is a look at the juniors chosen for the all-state, all-classification teams:
Aidan Shaw Aidan Shaw 6'7" | SF Blue Valley | 2022 State #40 Nation KS , Blue Valley, 1st team (pictured):
One of two juniors on the Sports in Kansas 1st team, Shaw was 2nd team 6A as a sophomore. He took his game to the next level as a junior, making the top 10 players in the state according to Sports in Kansas. The 6-foot-8 leaper averaged 19.7 points and 3.7 blocks this year.
Mark Mitchell Mark Mitchell 6'7" | SF Sunrise | 2022 State #8 Nation KS , Miege, 1st team:
The other junior to make the top 10 players in the state, Mitchell was the driving force behind arguably the best team in the state regardless of class. Miege trounced all the competition en route to the 4A title. Although his final season stats aren’t available, stats don’t really tell the story about the 6-foot-8 Mitchell. His team was so dominant, Mitchell didn’t have to really stuff the stat sheet.
Jordan Brown Jordan Brown 6'2" | SG St Francis | 2022 State GA , Basehor-Linwood, 2nd team:
The 6-foot-4 dual-sport star was picked for the 2nd team. Stats aren’t available for Brown, but he was a scoring dynamo. His range is limitless and he is one of the best from behind the arc in the state. He’s also just as good in transition and in the lane. With his athleticism he’s virtually impossible to stop at the rim.
Brett Sarwinski Brett Sarwinski 5'10" | PG Galena | 2022 State KS , Galena, 2nd team:
Also on the 2nd team, the 5-foot-11 Sarwinski was dynamite for the state-runners up in 3A. He averaged 17.8 points as a junior and was the leader in just about every way. Watch out for Galena next year. They return a ton.
Cason Richardson Cason Richardson 6'2" | CG Hesston | 2022 State KS , Hesston, 2nd team:
Another junior on the 2nd team is the 6-foot-3 Richardson. Putting a stop to Galena’s run was Richardson and Hesston in the championship. Stats aren’t available for this season for Richardson, but he lit up TMP for 36 points in the semi-final contest, and was the leading scorer with 16 in the championship game. Richardson was one of very few sophomores to earn all-state honors last year, when he averaged 17.8 points per game.
Juniors listed to the 3rd team of the Sports in Kansas all-class honors:
