Today, I want to take a look at the official All Sectional Team for the Seymour Sectional and provide some breakdown as to what I saw from each player, plus give you my own personal Honorable Mentions.
All Sectional Team:
Jake Heidbreder Jake Heidbreder 6'3" | SG Floyd Central | 2021 State IN – 6’3 2021 SG: Floyd Central – Heidbreder only played in one game but man what a game he had. Dropped 31 points and was the guy that kept his team alive during all 3 overtimes. What was great about watching him was that even if his shot was not falling, he never changed up his game and just kept sticking to his strengths. Heidbreder leaves Floyd Central as one of the best scorers, and players, to ever suit up for the Highlanders. As he begins his next chapter at Air Force, he is coming in already as made natural scorer.
Brandon Rayzer-Moore Brandon Rayzer-Moore 6'4" | SG Jeffersontown | 2020 IN – 6’5 2022 W: Jeffersonville – Rayzer-Moore was one of the more consistent players in this Sectional. He had 16 points in Game 1, 24 points in Game 2, and 16 points in Game 3. He was just scoring from all over and when the Red Devils needed a big shot, he would deliver each game. Going into Regionals, Jeffersonville is going to need to rely on him again to step-up and make those much needed plays. Arguably was the best player in the Sectional Seymour.
Will Lovings-Watts Will Lovings-Watts 6'5" | SF Jeffersonville | 2022 State IN – 6’5 2022 SF: Jeffersonville – Lovings-Watts played real solid these 3 games. He made some huge plays but at the same time trusted his teammates to deliver as well. Had his best game on Friday in the 3OT against Floyd where he dropped 17 points and had the game winning drive. Lovings-Watts is a very skilled player that also has the smarts to go with it. Does not take over a game unless he has to. Going into Regionals, should see more and more of Lovings-Watts.
Jaylen Fairman Jaylen Fairman 5'11" | PG Jeffersontown | 2021 IN – 6’0 2021 PG: Jeffersonville – Fairman was a player that not many knew about coming into this Sectional but made you know who he was by the final buzzer. Was one of the top scorers in all 3 games he played in (Game 1: 16pts, Game 2: 15 pts, Game 3: 18 pts) and was just so consistent on both ends of the floor. Noticed how well he was at getting to the rim and knowing when to find his teammates or to score himself. He was one of Jeffersonville’s best kept secrets but going into Regionals, teams will surely know to take him serious.
Kooper Staley – 6’2 2021 SG: Bedford North Lawrence – Staley battled until the very end. BNL was not given much of a fighting chance to make it past Friday but Staley made sure that they still had more ball to play. Made some big threes and his defense was probably the best I have ever seen from him. He had 11 points in Game 1, 14 points in Game 2, and 12 points in Game 3. He played with a ton of confidence and like a player that was on a mission to not quit. He is still on the boards and any team that ends up with him is not only getting a great shooter, but a warrior.
Colten Leach – 6’1 2023 G/F: Bedford North Lawrence – This was some of the best ball I have seen Leach play. Throughout most of this year, it just seemed like he was forcing a ton at the basket but in these past 3 games he was really getting his teammates involved. However, he did make some huge plays down the stretch in each game and even showed off a rare 3-point shot as well. Leach showed in this one the potential of him adding more to arsenal moving forward, which could really take his game to the next level. He scored 15 points in Game 1 and 13 points each in Game’s 2 and 3.
Kaden Stanton – 5’11 2022 PG: New Albany – He may have only played one game but nobody played as dominate as Stanton did last Friday night. Had 25 points against BNL and it was just the fact that he got any shot he wanted to that made it so impressive. Pretty much carried the bulldogs on his back until the final buzzer. Stanton showed why he is one of the better lead guards that we have in the state. He is in for a huge offseason followed by an even bigger senior year.
Honorable Mention:
Eli Meyer Eli Meyer 6'4" | SF Seymour | 2023 State IN – 6’3 2023 SF: Seymour – Meyer was one of the more aggressive players in this entire Sectional, especially on the rebounds. Finished the game against Bedford with a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards.
Colton Staggs – 6’1 2023 PG: Bedford North Lawrence – Staggs played really hard all three games he played in. Averaged 9 points in 3 games and honestly could have made a case to be on the official All Sectional Team. He is an underrated guard to watch for these next 2 years.
Jackson Miracle Jackson Miracle 6'5" | SF Bedford North Lawrence | 2021 State IN – 6’5 2021 PF: Bedford North Lawrence – Miracle was the most consistent scorer out of every player in this Sectional as he shot 100% (12-12) in FGs. He also could have made a case to be on the All Sectional Team.
Ben Cosner – 6’3 2021 W/F: Bedford North Lawrence – Conser may not have scored a ton of points these past 3 games but made the plays when it counted. His best game was Friday night vs New Albany when he dropped 12 points and made the final shot to send the Stars to the finals. Without question, Ben made the biggest shot at Sectional 15.
Kobe Stoudemire Kobe Stoudemire 5'9" | PG Jeffersonville | 2022 State IN – 5’9 2022 PG: Jeffersonville – Stoudemire had kind of an up and down experience in Sectional 15. Was not super electric on the offense but made some huge shots when the game was on the line. For his big plays at the end of each game, he deserves an honorable mention here.
