Continue ReadingThere’s a potential juggernaut on the rise here in the Atlanta market, and it rolls into town in the form of Pro Skills Basketball, a Charlotte-based AAU organization with teams in 16 markets across the US which includes a Team Curry club which came to Atlanta last summer and did real damage.
Director (and St Pius assistant) Jonathan Mosley is heading up the push here in GA, and has put together a team of 17U’s in particular that are sure to both surprise and entertain as they make their way along the circuit this summer.
BJ Djibo, 6-3, PG, Peachtree Ridge
Here we again with another Peachtree Ridge product making noise on the workout/camp/tournament scene, the talent-rich pocket over in Suwanee has given us a monster sleeper PG prospect in Djibo, plenty of size and confidence and possessing a smooth controlled handle, showed an easy 3-point stroke but was also excellent out in space on the break, perhaps one of the biggest and best-looking under the radar guys I’ve seen all month in my travels.
Gil Matondo Gil Matondo 6'4" | SF Chattahoochee | 2022 State GA , 6-4, SF, Chattahoochee
If Hooch is going to return to another deep run in next year’s state playoffs it will be predominantly on the shoulders of Matondo, multi-faceted and athletic on a scary level, has become a definite threat from 15 feet with the J in addition to his high-flying exploits nearer the basket, rebounds and works like a 6-8 player, can guard 4 spots with his quickness and growing strength, I predict a monster summer where he vaults to big-time status.
Omari Hamilton, 6-5, PF, Dacula
Speaking of athletes you can almost never go wrong with a rangy big guy from the Dacula program, Hamilton is a fascinating slashing 4-man who will be a ton to handle near the basket with a nose for the finish, not afraid of contact but is slithery enough to use a few dribbles to sneak by you, plenty of lift to be a problem at the defensive end as an eraser.
K’hamani Olivacce, 5-9, PG, North Atlanta
Slated to join the club and was there working out, super-fast PG who really impressed for an excellent veteran Warriors team when I saw them over Christmas, bounces between pass-first lead man to scoring point seamlessly and that’s one of his inherent gifts, sees the floor beautifully and doesn’t force the action, can shoot it, drive it and guards the ball on the top-flight level, were he over 6-0 he’d be swimming in early attention with his skillset in my view.
Gus Hood, 6-1, SG, Rabun County (pictured above)
Great opportunity for this flashy guard to get his name out there, mixes a clearly sound understanding of the game with enough athleticism and aforementioned flash to surprise you, smooth stroke from range and good quickness to create space off the bounce, like all the PSB guys guards you with intensity.
Abduhl Diaby, 6-5, PF, Grayson
From the Grayson factory we get another athletic, long big who can move and sky, opportunity abound for this prospect as well playing here where his ability to be an exciting finisher near the basket and off the break can be highlighted, oozes potential like a canvas ready to have the color added, with development of a consistent jump shot even out to 10-12 feet will become someone who commands minutes in what will be another deep Rams frontcourt next year.
Lewis Robertson, 6-3, SG, Northgate
Pure SG with a sweet stroke from long-range fascinates with his body and upside, had a noticeable showing at our Prep Hoops Top 250 last fall but didn’t have the regular season down in Coweta County I’m sure he was hoping for, this roster is good fit for him where can spot-up at the line and do damage and then use good quickness to drive it from there, keep an eye trained here.
