Coach Issac Taylor heads up the 2023 bunch, and he’s got quite a few names we think you’ll be hearing a lot more about both this summer and into next winter.
John Carroll, PF, Osborne (pictured above)
When you walk into the gym you can hardly take your eyes off of Carroll, who at 6-7 with the body of a college freshman already he casts an imposing figure. His game is a burgeoning and exciting mix of sleek shooting and nearly unstoppable drives from the wing, his frame allows him in this division virtually limitless options to attack, and when his massive upside begins to be realized into a more molded form he could quickly become one of the state’s monster risers.
KJ Hicks, SG, Grace Christian
GCA has a pair of guards on this roster with the 6-3 Hicks being half of that, and he showed nice aggressiveness attacking from the wing. He has good length allowing him to guard at least 3 spots in this division, and the fluid athlete looked good from long-range. Were he playing at a higher profile program in the ATL-Metro he’d surely be featured more prominently on radars around town.
Amir Taylor, PG, Grace Christian
The 2nd half of the GCA guard duo is Taylor, a slick lead guard with a ton of poise and confidence. He gets around the floor with an ease that is evident, but it’s not for lack of speed, for he can turn it up with a burst and get by you. Can also shoot it, and really gets up into the opposition at the defensive end.
Keyshawn McPherson, SF, McEachern
It’s always a pleasure to run across McEachern products, as the talent pool in Powder Springs seems almost inexhaustible. McPherson too has a stout frame at 6-4 and uses it wisely to both create space and play effectively through contact. His best work right now is done inside 15 feet where he can pop a mid-range J and go to work on the O-glass. Keep an eye here for a big summer step.
Cade Costanzo Cade Costanzo 5'11" | SG Bremen | 2023 State GA , CG, Bremen
Steady, smooth and skilled are 3 apt words for what I saw from the west Georgia guard. He played both the point and off-guard in spurts and was equally comfortable at each, showing good control and decision-making with the ball and a terrific stroke from well out past the arc when staking a spot on the wing. He’ll provide this group flexibility, clutch scoring and sound defense and is sure to gain some eyeballs for the 2A Blue Devil program.
