The second game we caught Romeoville against Oswego East. Too much fire power for Oswego East in this one as they got the win 51-40. Here are our 5 Takeaways: Wednesday Recap!
Robbie Avila Robbie Avila 6'9" | PF Oak Forest | 2022 State #225 Nation IL Shows Out As Usual
Anyone who reads PHI knows how big of a fan I am of Oak Forest 2022 power forward Robbie Avila Robbie Avila 6'9" | PF Oak Forest | 2022 State #225 Nation IL . The junior is one of the most skilled players in the state regardless of class. That was shown again in this game. Knocked down threes and mid-range jumpers effortlessly. Very efficient and crafty in the post knowing how to use angles, the backboard, and sound footwork to score. Good hands catching passes in traffic. Soft touch around the basket. He went for 27 points and it didn’t even seem like he was sweating.
Fred Robinson Fred Robinson 6'3" | PG Lincoln Way East | 2022 State IL Brings Pop at Point
A new addition to Oak Forest has been their point guard Fred Robinson Fred Robinson 6'3" | PG Lincoln Way East | 2022 State IL . The 2022 lead guard got on our radar over the summer with his ability to play both ends of the floor using his length and athleticism. Gets out in the open floor, finishes at the rim with acrobatic layups, and is a capable shooter. Went for 9 points.
Small College Trio for Eisenhower
There are three seniors for Eisenhower that are worth tracking at the small college and JUCO levels. Taijon Barry Taijon Barry 6'5" | SF Eisenhower | 2021 State IL is the best of them standing at 6’4” with long arms he can defend on the perimeter as he got a steal and took it the other way. Handles well in space playing in transition and uses his quickness around the hoop to score. Netted 13 points. Deonte Sutton was a productive 6’4” senior forward. Crashed the glass for put backs, hit a mid-range jumper, and overall brought toughness to his team for 10 points. Also intrigued by the long-term potential of 6’7” post Keon Mitchell. Shot blocking presence that protected the rim and swatted a shot on the perimeter as well. Hit a three himself and displayed upside that could be developed at the next level where he is committed to Joliet JC. He had 5 points.
Perimeter Trio Strong for Oswego East
Oswego East got the road win behind their perimeter trio with a prospect coming from each class. Unsigned senior wing Odin Lium Odin Lium 6'5" | SF Oswego East | 2021 State IL has a lot of projectability with his skill and athleticism. Liked how he crashed the boards in this one and converted in the paint on quick passes or put backs for 11 points. Small colleges or JUCOs should consider him as an upside play late. Class of 2022 shooting guard Patrick Robinson Patrick Robinson 6'4" | SG Oswego East | 2022 State IL is a big bodied off guard that loves to attack downhill. Powerful slasher when he gets his shoulders squared getting to the cup for scores as he had 11 points in the win. We came away very impressed with the potential in 2023 small forward Mekhi Lowery. Rangy wing that jumps off the floor with his athleticism and activity level. Rim runner and made his free throws. Also had 11 points.
Seniors for Romeoville Lead Team
Two seniors were the top performers for Romeoville in their defeat. Big many Trayton Trice Trayton Trice 6'5" | PF Romeoville | 2021 State IL is headed to Lindenwood next season. He is a big bodied five that plays taller than his height because of his long arms and he is so effective using his size inside. Moves people around for scores and is a physical rebounder. He had 12 points. Wing Tyler Johnson is a prospect that small colleges should take a look at in the senior class. Projectable wing that got after it on both ends of the floor using his length. Sneaky rebounder flying in for boards and hit a three en route to 10 points.
