Continue ReadingClass 2A has been back and forth this season and we’ve seen movement from the top five classes all season long. The top five teams in 2A have combined for only 11 losses. That is a very low number and shows how valuable games are in this class, as there aren’t many losses.
There weren’t nearly as many upsets in 2A as there were in 3A. Lets take a look at this weekend’s recap before we preview next weekend’s big games.
Notable Games:
Hooker beat Morrison 64-25
Apache upset Amber-Pocasset 40-37
Cashion beat Wewoka 72-67
Minco beat Silo 67-64
Dale beat Pawhuska 63-59
Union beat Caney Valley 75-24
Analysis:
Cashion Wewoka was the best game of the night. It took a comeback fueled by Vance Raney, Austin Frazier Austin Frazier 6'1" | PG Cashion | 2022 OK and Jonah Jenkins to bring the Wildcats back. Raney had a field day from deep. While Apache notched a nice upset, they lost in the next round to Hennessey. Minco beat Silo, meaning they are still alive with a chance to win the consolation game. Union is 21-1 and completed a clean sweep of the postseason competition so far.
Prospects to Watch:
Vance Raney Cashion
Raney is the best shooter in his class and Cashion relies on his offense. They’ll need him to get hot to have a chance. Raney is also an underrated defender and is very athletic.
Gunnar Gordon Gunnar Gordon 6'3" | PG Pawnee | 2022 OK Pawnee
The point guard can do it all. He’s lanky and has length, which he uses to finish around the rim. He’s a sniper from deep and has range beyond the line.
Cooper Shirley Cooper Shirley 6'3" | PG Minco | 2021 State OK Minco
Shirley scored 52 points last weekend, and that’s all I should have to write. He is a special scorer, can throw down dunks, and can shoot from anywhere. Shirley is a tall wing that is one of the purest scorers in the state, no matter the class.
Dayton Forsythe Dale
The freshman has led Dale all season and there’s no stopping him now. He controls the game and is smooth in everything he does. Forsythe also is calm and collected with the ball in his hands. He can shoot from deep and is very strong for a freshman when driving.
