This Freshman class is truly something special, the group consists of prospects that are extremely skilled, highly athletic, gifted with size, and already have a good understanding of the game. Most, if not all of these Freshmen athletes, will become the most talked about, most-watched, and most recruited players in North Texas over the next three years. This will be a series of articles that breakdown each prospect and their best skills from the 2024 Dallas/Fort Worth Rankings Watch List.
Marlon Linton Jr. | Combo Guard | Crandall
Marlon Linton Jr. might’ve been the most impressive freshman of them all this season, earning First Team All-District honors after averaging 18 points, 2 assists, and nearly 5 rebounds per game, not only leading his team to the playoffs, but also leading them in just about every statistical category, points, assists, steals, free-throws made, three-pointers made, and field goals made. He’s a constant threat and an absolute headache to face off against due to his ability to do everything efficiently and effectively. The Crandall guard can play either on or off the ball and still have the same effect on the game. If you try to stop his scoring, Linton Jr. will just beat you with his creative ability to make plays for others, as well as make any pass on the floor. On the defensive end, he can compete with the best of them and lockdown any guards that come his way with his speed, strength, and eye for the ball. Also, a phenomenal rebounder for his position, Marlon always finds a way to put his stamp on the game, he’s as productive as they come, has a motor that never quits, and plays with the perfect balance of aggression and poise. Marlon Linton Jr. has shown extreme amounts of potential all year long, he’s set to be a nationally ranked prospect throughout his high school career, with a talent and skill set that can take him far in this game.
Deontrell Barrett Deontrell Barrett 6'0" | PG Lancaster | 2024 TX | Point Guard | Faith Family Academy
Deontrell Barrett Deontrell Barrett 6'0" | PG Lancaster | 2024 TX is a lefty with elite point guard skills who’s incredibly locked-in and focused anytime he sets foot on the court. and plays with an intense, highly competitive nature. There isn’t much on the court that Barrett can’t do at a high level, he’s proven to be a very talented, basketball-savvy offensive weapon that can beat a team with his ball-handling, his passing, and his jump shot.. Barrett’s a stocky guard with great body control, the ability to get to the basket, consistently make tough shots, and also get to any other spot on the floor at will. This floor general can burn a team from deep as well, especially when shooting the ball on-balance with his feet set. Good court vision, the Faith Family Academy guard always finds his teammates, he’s always under control, and knows how to take what the defense gives him and let the game come to him. Defensively, Deontrell brings a relentless presence, often causing problems for ball-handlers when pressuring them, leading most of his opponents to either picking up their dribble, losing their dribble, or forcing a bad pass that results in a turnover. This young man played a major role in leading the Oak Cliff Family Faith Eagles to the state semi-finals this season. He has all of the tools to be special, there’s no doubt that Deontrell Barrett Deontrell Barrett 6'0" | PG Lancaster | 2024 TX will continue to be one of Texas’s top-ranked point guard’s from the 2024 class.
Obiaku “Obi” Udom | Power Forward | Frisco Heritage
The one and only Freshman on the Frisco Heritage varsity team, Obi Udom, participated in 17 of the team’s 27 games and often found a way to contribute one way or another. Standing at 6-feet-4-inches, Udom has fantastic physical attributes, his strong solid build benefits him greatly on both ends of the floor, Obi is an absolute freight train when coming downhill. More times than not he can overpower a defender and score around the basket despite the contact or physical play. Offensively, Obi has a nice set of skills that help make him a menace with the ball in his hands in the mid-range, as well as in the paint.. Obiaku Udom Obiaku Udom 6'4" | PF Frisco Heritage | 2024 TX was a part of a team that went on to make it to the second round of the playoffs, finishing the season with a 22-5 record, while also being ranked as a top 100 team in the state.
Bryson McGlothin Bryson McGlothin 6'7" | SF John Paul II | 2024 State TX | Small Forward | Wylie
This prospect possesses raw skills and talent to go along with his elite physical tools. McGlothin displays great length, a massive wingspan, and a gigantic hand size. Bryson has proven to be problematic in transition, he uses his strides well when beating opposing players up the floor, as well as off the dribble where he attacks the rim with a fearless aggressiveness. McGlothin can go inside for high percentage buckets and also step outside for spot-up three-pointers where he’s often tough to contest due to his high release point. Bryson shows good versatility, he always finding a way to be effective from both forward positions, and right now he looks as if he’s developing into a two-way small forward that can shoot the lights out.. Look out for Bryson McGlothin Bryson McGlothin 6'7" | SF John Paul II | 2024 State TX , this should be a breakout summer for him.
