As this group looks to develop their games over the spring and summer, lets look at some of the guys we will see around who will be dominating the glass on both ends of the floor.
Isaiah Koppang, 6’5 Forward, Kansas City East Christian: The young sophomore forward first popped during the fall when he helped his squad dominate in the MoKan Fall League. He went on to carry that momentum into a tremendous sophomore season for KCEC, averaging a double double at 12 points and 11 rebounds per game. He plays with a huge motor to pair with his 6’5 strong frame and he gets to a ton of basketballs coming off of the rim or loose balls. Koppang has really strong hands and good footwork that allow him to have great balance and put back ability on offensive rebounds and the ability to outlet the ball to a guard or push the break on defensive boards.
Gunnar Ball, 6’2 Wing, Perry Lecompton: Ball took on a much bigger role for the retooling Perry team this season and he produced. Making his mark on the game mainly with his 3 point shooting ability, Ball is also a tremendous rebounder for his size thanks to his activity and athleticism. He averaged 8.2 rebounds per game to go along with 10 points per game, a really solid second year. If he can continue to bring the rebounding numbers with his big time shooting ability, he is on pace to have a great career, and if he plays on the grassroots circuit, he can also be marked for a potential breakout candidate.
Eli Sawyers Eli Sawyers 6'7" | SF Southeast Of Saline | 2023 State KS , 6’5 Forward, Southeast of Saline: A talented 6’5 forward with guard skills, Sawyers also possesses the athletic traits and motor to be a tremendous rebounder as well. He is very good at finishing after offensive rebounds, and his guard skills allow him to be a real threat at snatching defensive rebounds and pushing the break on his own with great pace. Sawyers is tough to stop in transition and can be a one man fast break, so his ability to rebound at a 7.5 rebound per game clip, helps give him opportunities to get out on the break.
Will Rost Will Rost 6'3" | SG Aquinas | 2023 State KS , 6’4 Forward, St Thomas Aquinas: Although known for his elite shooting ability and length, Rost is also a very solid defender and willing and talented rebounder. He possesses a great toughness about him that really developed throughout the grinding schedule Aquinas played this season and the heavy hitters in the front court he went toe to toe with night in and night out. Rost managed to rebound the ball at a 6.5 rebound per game clip while also shooting 45% from 3 and almost averaging 16 points per game.
Jerrit Norris Jerrit Norris 6'4" | PF Troy | 2023 State KS , 6’4 Forward, Troy: Norris has a strong athletic frame and he manages to use his athleticism to take up a lot of area especially around the paint. He moves extremely well and has a motor to him and he can slide under opponents and then burst up to grab rebounds. He sits at about 10 rebounds per game, and is extremely active on the glass on both sides of the floor. He also averages 19 points per game, and cleans up offensive boards efficiently with scoring inside off of them.
