The ability to see the floor, hit open teammates, and have great court vision make a killer pairing for a basketball player on the floor. Here are some intriguing 2023 guys who excel in that area.
Aidan Wing Aidan Wing 6'4" | SF Bishop Miege | 2023 State KS , 6’4 Wing, Bishop Miege: Wing was a pivotal role player with a ton of upside that played for the state champs of 4A out at Bishop Miege. He has great length and size to see over and through the defense, he is a willing passer, and he can deliver some great dimes to cutters or guys coming off of screen actions. With an increased role in both the grassroot scene and next high school season, expect for Wing to showcase his passing ability and court vision quite often.
Makaen Hastings Makaen Hastings 5'11" | PG Salina South | 2023 KS , 5’9 Point Guard, Solomon: Posting close to 4 assists per game for a really good Solomon squad this season, the passing aspect of the young dynamic point guard’s game can go overlooked with his ability to score the ball posting 17.3 points per game. He is shifty and can get into the lane and has an array of kick out passes to open shooters and is very good dumping the ball down to cutters off of drives. He does a good job of helping advance the break through kicking the ball ahead and is smart enough to make great extra passes to turn good looks for himself into great looks for others.
Isaiah Atwater Isaiah Atwater 5'8" | PG Maize South | 2023 State KS , 5’10 Point Guard, Maize South (Pictured): Atwater is a really fun point guard that has a lot of tools to his game that he should be able to build upon throughout his career. His defense and and ability to attack and score at the rim are standouts to his game, but he also averaged 3 assists per game, and his decision making on drives and in the transition game is where the passing shines for Atwater. He had his breakout game passing the ball against a very good Derby team this season dropping 7 dimes in the game.
Jason Rodriguez Jason Rodriguez 5'10" | PG Bishop Miege | 2023 State KS , 6’ Point Guard, Harmon (Kansas City): Rodriquez quietly put together a loaded statistical season this year, averaging 7 points, 4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. He is a really solid all around point guard who will adjust to the flow of games and bring the aspect that his team needs most night in and night out. He has good length and court vision that allows him to have a arsenal of passes that get his guys great looks both at the rim and on the perimeter. In the free flowing grass roots game, Rodriquez should be able to put on quite the passing clinic.
Cody Schurle, 6’2 Guard, Manhattan CHIEF (Home School): Coming off of a pretty serious injury, Schurle got back to his high level of play on the home school circuit and select KSHSAA schools. Schurle has great size, poise, and length to be a great playmaker on the wing, which he is. This season he averaged 5 assists per game, one of the highest marks amongst sophomores in Kansas. He is a top notch shooter so he sees a ton of hard close outs and he can hit the next open man with ease, drive and kick, for hit post guys for great looks off his passes.
