Continue ReadingAfter a month of rankings updates, we’re finally to the 2021 Class. This is likely the final rankings update for this class. It’s a group that started with a lot of promise. Some kids never really developed but other kids came from out of obscurity to be D1 players. Here’s a look at the updated Top 10.
Zion Harmon Zion Harmon 5'10" | PG Marshall County | 2021 State #52 Nation KY , Marshall County – Zion has missed half the season due to injury but he has remained a top 100 level recruit nationally over the last several years. Going back to his 8th grade season at Bowling Green, Harmon has had a very decorated career and if he had played his entire career (he was ineligible for a year), Zion would likely be in the top 10-15 of scoring in Kentucky all time.
Ben Johnson Ben Johnson 6'3" | CG Lexington Catholic | 2021 State KY , Lexington Catholic – Johnson has been the best Senior performer this season, statewide. He’s putting up huge numbers in every category and his team is undefeated and ranked #1 in the state in about every poll. Ben has been a 4 year starter for Catholic and has them in position to win state and be named Mr Basketball this season.
Sekou Kalle Sekou Kalle 6'9" | C DeSales | 2021 State KY , DeSales – The big man started his Kentucky career at the now defunct Aspire Academy before making the move to DeSales. Sekou has had a great Senior season for the Colts and helped them to be one of the best teams in the state this season. Kalle’s best basketball is still ahead of him and has a chance to be a true impact player at Akron.
Sam Vinson Sam Vinson 6'3" | CG Highlands | 2021 State KY , Highlands – Vinson is having a huge Senior year and has become the top player in Northern Kentucky this season. Committed to play at NKU, Sam is leading the Bluebirds in almost every statistical category and is in the mix for the Mr Basketball award. Sam has really burst on the scene in the last 2 years to be a top player in the class.
Isaiah Mason Isaiah Mason 6'4" | SF Bowling Green | 2021 State KY , Bowling Green – Isaiah’s individual numbers are not as lofty as some others but he is on a very balanced Bowling Green team and doesn’t get as many shots as some of the other guys on this list. Mason is headed to NKU for college and has a chance to be the next great Kentucky wing on that Norse roster, especially after he adds some bulk to his frame.
Cam Pope Cam Pope 6'2" | CG Male | 2021 State KY , Male – Cam has flown up the rankings in the last year or so and went from no offers to a D1 signee with Jacksonville State. Pope is a pure sniper who can shoot the ball with efficiency all over the court and has “in the gym” range. He’s shooting 60% overall and 65% from three but has been limited to 5 games thanks to Covid complications in the schedule.
DaShawn Jackson DaShawn Jackson 6'3" | SG Frederick Douglass | 2021 State KY , Frederick Douglass – Jackson is having a great Senior season and recently impressed coach AW Hamilton enough to get an offer from EKU last month. DaShawn is putting up huge shooting numbers this season and becoming a very efficient scorer. He’s shooting 46-43-85 and averaging 6.5 rebounds per game on top of that.
Jaden Rogers Jaden Rogers 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2021 State KY , Fern Creek – Jaden has had his Senior season limited due to an ankle injury that came after Jefferson County delayed the start of the season until February. Rogers has been limited to 3 games this season but is looking like he’ll be ready for a postseason run with the Tigers.
JaQuais Franklin JaQuais Franklin 6'1" | PG Elizabethtown | 2021 State KY , Elizabethtown – One of the top available players in the class, Franklin has been a steady scoring guard over the last few seasons and has a chance to land at the high D2 or low D1 level before his career ends. He’ll go down as one of the best players in the 5th region in the last decade or so.
Scotty Draud Scotty Draud 6'6" | SF Beechwood | 2021 State KY , Beechwood – Draud recently picked up his first scholarship offer and could see more coming his way in the near future. With great positional size, Scotty can score the ball at all 3 levels and is having a huge Senior season to go with a high scoring career overall. He’s likely to be remembered as the best player in Beechwood history and has a chance to win region player of the year.
