North Central Gets First Sectional Win In More Than A Decade
It has been a minute since North Central-Farmersburg in Southern Indiana has gotten into the win column in Sectionals. More than a decade, actually. 2009-10 season when they got all the way to Semistate before losing to Barr-Reeve.
Since Vance Edmondson took the program over three years ago, they have been getting better and better. Not known for being a powerhouse and four years ago not winning a single game, North Central has now won double-digit games in back to back season and just got their first Sectional win in 11 years.
Now, it doesn’t get any easier as they will play Bloomfield on Friday night but this is as much momentum as they have had this late in the season.
Rising Sun Overcomes Postponements To Secure First Sectional Win
Just like North Central, Rising Sun was trying to get over the hump and get their first Sectional win in 6 years. They knocked off a Waldron team that has had a tough year as well.
For Rising Sun, though, this is the culmination of a difficult season. They have had atleast three different times this year where games have been suspended for Coronavirus. That sort of stopping and starting isn’t uncommon this year but to find some success in a year that hasn’t been kind to any team and with their past record, this was a big one.
Now, they will have a legit shot to move forward with their next round matchup against Southwestern-Shelbyville in Sectional Semifinals on Friday night.
Quick Hitters:
- Providence Cristo Rey gets a close win over Victory College Prep. Cristo Rey secures just their 5th win of the season but is within one game of a Sectional Championship but will now have to take on Indianapolis Lutheran.
- Lutheran picked up an easy win over Christel House to lane their 20th win on the season, their first season over 20 wins since 2007-08 when they lost in the State Finals to Triton.
- Bloomfield gets an easy 74-42 win over Clay City on Wednesday night. This starts a potential deep run for the Cardinals who have been one of the best teams in the state the last few years in 1A. They take on North Central-Farmersburg on Friday.
- Southwestern-Shelbyville got strong win over Hauser to move on to the next round. That win got them to 11-10 on the season but they do get a Rising Sun team they beat, 65-43 earlier this season.
