The flurry to the end of the regular season is upon us and some guys are going to be able to step up big time for their teams and themselves. Let’s take a look at some of the prime time individual performances over the weekend.
Duo Performance for Aquinas in win over Blue Valley
Will Rost Will Rost 6'3" | SG Aquinas | 2023 State KS , 6’5 Wing, 2023, Aquinas: Rost dropped 26 points in the big time matchup with the talented Blue Valley squad. Already known for his premier shooting, Rost had it on full display in this game knocking down 4 threes including the game winner with 3 seconds left. Rost also got himself to the foul line going 4 of 4, and was big time in the fourth quarter scoring 11 in the 8 minute time frame.
Tank Young Tank Young 5'7" | CG Aquinas | 2021 State KS , 5’9 Point guard, 2021, Aquinas: Also scoring 26 in the game, Young showed why he’s the team leader and epitome of toughness, putting constant pressure on the rim and on the BV defense. He knocked down some perimeter shots as well, and when he is doing that, his game really opens up and he becomes a big time threat.
Miles Blandi Miles Blandi 6'4" | SG Blue Valley | 2021 State KS , 6’4 Guard, 2021, Blue Valley: The Blue Valley guard continues to explode on to the scene as of late. He drilled 6 3’s and finished with 20 points in the loss. Blandi is showing that he is an elite shooter in not only the KC area, but around the state.
Aidan Shaw Aidan Shaw 6'7" | SF Blue Valley | 2022 State #40 Nation KS , 6’7 Wing/Forward, 2022, Blue Valley: The elite wing/forward battled throughout the matchup with Aquinas where he saw a ton of different matchups and defenses throughout the night. Showed off the improved shooting touch i this one as well. He finished with 16 in the game.
Individual Stand Out Performances
Javon Grant Javon Grant 5'11" | PG Pittsburg | 2021 State KS , 5’11 Point Guard, 2021, Pittsburgh: The electrifying and high level scorer went on a tear over the weekend and in his last 3 games in total. Over the weekend he scored 102 points combined in 3 games and was getting it done from all 3 levels. He uses his change of pace, body control, and shiftyness well in the half court, and in transition, knows how to get high quality looks up at the rim. His highlight performance came in a 30 point, 12 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steal performance where he showcased where he can do a little more than just fill up the scoring column.
Tanner Hecht Tanner Hecht 6'5" | CG Wamego | 2021 State KS , 6’5 Guard/Wing, 2021, Wamego: Triple doubles are always fun, and Hecht messed around and got himself one on Friday in a wild game that went into SIX OVERTIMES! His final stat line when it was all said and done in what felt like the wee hours of the morning was 22 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 blocks. Did a great job on the glass and protecting the rim in key spots as well with the game on the line, and with his guard versatility, put together an all around great performance in an insane game.
Jack Johnson Jack Johnson 6'2" | CG Andover | 2021 State KS , 6’2 Wing, 2021, Andover (Pictured Above): Much like triple doubles, breaking school records are fun too. Johnson did that over the weekend breaking the school record for points in a game dropping 41 in a big time win. The scoring obviously over shadows his overall performance where he also added 8 rebounds and contributed 4 assists as well. Johnson is another high quality 3 level scorer and that was put to use in the 41 point effort. He drilled 3 threes as well, and just got to wherever he wanted on the floor off the bounce.
