The Little Elm Lobos earned a 73-72 home victory over the Denton Guyer Wildcats on Tuesday, the Wylie Pirates hosted and defeated the South Garland Colonels 62-51 on Thursday, and the Lewisville Farmers escaped with a 64-59 road win against the Hebron Hawks on Friday.
Here are six standout underclassmen from this past week’s action:
T’Johnn Brown T’Johnn Brown 6'0" | PG Dallas Kimball | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’0” Point Guard | South Garland HS – Brown’s shot-making ability was on full display vs. Wylie. He is a dynamic shooter from mid-range and behind the arc, continuously draining difficult shots on Thursday. The second-year guard knocked down a wide-variety of jump shots, including step-back threes and pull-up jumpers from the elbows, many of which were heavily contested. Furthermore, Brown possesses deep range and is unafraid to let it fly from anywhere. He finished the night with 20 points.
Adrian Banks | 2023 | 6’2” Shooting Guard | Lewisville HS – Banks had a great shooting night on Friday, hitting three triples and accounting for 17 points. He has good range from distance and does a tremendous job of getting his shots off in rhythm. The Lewisville sophomore was responsible for some gorgeous assists as well, zipping the ball to teammates for easy layups. His three-point shooting and smooth style of play make him someone to keep an eye on in the coming years.
Connor Newton | 2023 | 5’7” Point Guard | Denton Guyer HS – Newton is a pass-first point guard. The Guyer floor general is an unselfish facilitator and a smart decision maker. That said, he is a very capable scorer who can shoot the three and attack off the dribble. His wisdom as a sophomore is remarkable. He picks his spots and is incredibly efficient when he decides to look for his shot. He did exactly that vs. Little Elm, drilling a pair of threes from the catch. Beyond that, Newton is shifty, quick, and handles the ball well against pressure.
Alex Cotton | 2023 | 6’5” Combo Guard | Hebron HS – Cotton is a skilled guard with good size and length. His combination of athleticism and skill allow him to contribute in a variety of ways on offense. The 6-foot-5-inch guard is a solid ball handler and a terrific three-point shooter, burying a trio of catch-and-shoot threes on Friday. He is smart with his shot selection too. Additionally, Cotton is an accurate distributor who uses his size to see over the top of the defense. He ended the game with 13 points, three assists, and two rebounds.
Tre’Lin Green | 2023 | 5’7” Point Guard | Lewisville HS – Green possesses a quick first step and is electric in the open court. He plays with a sense of urgency on offense. The sophomore one-guard knows how to turn the corner and blow past defenders, having great success attacking the basket vs. Hebron. He is a quality shooter from behind the arc as well, making a pair of threes for Lewisville, ultimately accounting for 10 points Friday night. On defense, Green is a scrappy on-ball defender who defends the length of the floor.
D’von Turner D’von Turner 5'11" | PG Rockwall | 2024 State TX | 2024 | Combo Guard | South Garland HS – Turner has a strong build and isn’t afraid to be physical. He certainly doesn’t look like a freshman. The 2024 prospect was solid at both ends on Thursday. He scored off the drive and finished well at the rim while also displaying the ability to shoot the three ball, making timely plays on offense. On Defense, he is gritty and likes to get up into the man he is guarding. Turner has had a productive freshman season and should continue to improve over the course of the next few yeas. He is definitely deserving of his placement on DeVontae Cobb’s Dallas/Fort Worth 2024 Watch List.
