The smaller schools are beginning to wrap up regular season play, with first-round postseason play in 1A starting on Friday and 1A and 2A really get it going next week. There were a few results last week that led to some shakeup in the rankings, and we detail the key movement below.
Top-ranked North Linn (19-0) is holding strong in 1A. The Lynx beat then-#2 Springville by 10 last week, without star point guard Austin HilmerAustinHilmer5'11" | PGNorth Linn | 2022StateIA playing due to a stomach bug. Then, they completed a rare same-day doubleheader on Saturday, beating both Lisbon and Central City. Springville (18-2) has lost both of their meetings with the Lynx, and drop from #2 to #4, with Martensdale-St. Marys (18-0) and Lake Mills (18-0) each moving up a spot. Wapsie Valley (14-4) rounds out the top five.
Boyden-Hull (19-0), the defending 2A champion, is the lone undefeated team left in the class. Aplington-Parkersburg (16-3) fell a few spots from #4 to #6 following their loss to Dike-New Hartford (16-2), and Rock Valley (15-4) is the lone newcomer this week at #8.
Class 3A continues to shuffle the team at the top, as Ballard (15-1) is back at the place they started the year – #1. The Bombers moved up one spot following a loss by previous #1 Pella (15-2), who dropped to #4. Dallas Center-Grimes (13-2) leapfrogged Monticello (16-0) to get up to #2 as a result of their win over Pella. Glenwood (16-2) re-enters the rankings this week at #8.
The top three in 4A remain the same – Cedar Falls (12-0), Waukee (10-1) and Johnston (7-2). Council Bluffs Lincoln (14-3) and Hempstead (12-3) both moved up a spot to round out the top five following two losses by previous #4 Centennial. Ames (11-3) re-enters the rankings at #8 this week, following a few weeks outside the top 10.
