Isaiah Thompson Isaiah Thompson 6'6" | PF Fountain Ft. Carson | 2021 State CO – Fountain Fort-Carson
Thompson showed why he is one of the best forwards in the entire state as he matched up with another talented big and did what he wanted. Thompson is a nightmare matchup for opposing teams as he is as versatile as they come. Thompson can put the ball on the floor to get inside the lane and has excellent footwork, and can score on the block. He also can shoot it a bit, and he hit a 3-pointer in this game to open up the floor to navigate. Against a ranked Pueblo Central squad that was on a streak, he was the best player on the floor. He put up a game-high 20 points, had a monster 18-rebounds, and also a block. Fountain Fort-Carson is off to a 3-0 start, and he is a big reason why. Expect the Trojans to keep winning with him at the helm.
Charlie Dortch – Rocky Mountain
The Lobos picked up a 66-65 win, and it was an unexpected standout in the game that led the way. With talented seniors on the squad, it was surprising to get their best performance from a sophomore. The 6’6 forward had himself a day and was forced to step up and ended up being the MVP of the game. Dortch finished with a game-high 18 points, and it was the efficiency that stood out. Dortch went 8-9 from the field. He hit both 3-pointers that he took in the game and found his way. If he can continue on the pace that he has been, it gives this pesky Rocky Mountain team a player to go through at times, and he has worked extremely hard to find his way.
Alex Hurr —Mountain View
Hurr had his breakout performance in a losing effort. He did everything he could to get the win, but it was a bit too much as Silver Creek buckled down in the final court. Regardless, Hurr was sensational in the game. He finished with a game-high 29-points in the game. He was 11-18 from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers in the game. He created for himself, moved without the ball, and still scored despite the different looks. Hurr was a force on the boards and was the best player on the floor for the night. He finished with four blocks and showed that he is a player that has to be taken seriously. He’s off to a great start of the year.
Corbin Jantzer – Green Mountain
A player that has popped out of nowhere and gotten off to a great start is the 6’4 wing for the Rams. Jantzer was the leading scorer for Green Mountain in their upset win over the #4 Golden Demons. Jantzer finished with 19 points in the game and remained aggressive throughout the whole contest. He was all over the floor as he grabbed nine boards and turned defense to offense with strip steals that morphed into fastbreak opportunities. He was all over the boards, locking up defensively, and showed that Green Mountain had an extra weapon that they could go through.
Jordan Reed Jordan Reed 6'5" | CG Manual | 2022 State CO – Manual
The ThunderBolts picked up their first win of the season as they blew out Jefferson Academy to get the ball rolling. Manual is trying to get back to their usual winning ways, and they did just that as their top player, junior, Jordan Reed Jordan Reed 6'5" | CG Manual | 2022 State CO had his best game of the season. Reed scored a career-high 28 points in the game, and to break it simply, that is what Reed will have to do if Manual wants to continue their winning. Reed cannot afford to have bad games this year as Manual is relying on him heavily. He has the ball in his hands, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out six assists. Reed is off to a scorching start and is a selfless leader; he is a player to keep an eye on.
Elijah Knudsen Elijah Knudsen 5'10" | CG Mead | 2022 State CO – Mead
The #1 team in 4A, Mead, was in a dog fight on Wednesday night but found a way to surface with a win. The gameplan was simple; get the ball to your best player and let him create. Knudsen did just that as he had his best scoring performance of the season. Knudsen put up a game-high 26 points and refused to let his team lose. He was aggressive early on, trying to get others involved, but then took matters into his own hands and started to let it fly. Anybody that has been paying attention knows the type of sniper that Knudsen is, and it was on display. He hit five 3-pointers, mostly off of the dribble, and also mixed it up inside. He got to his spots and made the opposing team pay, and when he is on, there is not much you can do but hope that he simply misses on his own. Assertive Elijah is the best Elijah.
