While still a long way to go, we wanted to take this time to recognize some of the players putting together monster statistical seasons. In this article, we take a look at the top scorers in the state.
Rad Hughes 5’11 PG Green River 2021 – While averaging nearly 30 ppg would be impressive enough, Hughes has gotten that average with consistency and explosiveness. He has scored double-digits in 11 of 12 games, however, it’s his monster games that catch your eye. The senior PG has gone for 51 against Grand County and 44 against Intermountain Christian. If that wasn’t enough he’s sprinkled in 4 30 point games during the season.
Paora Winitana Paora Winitana 6'6" | PG American Heritage | 2021 State UT 6’6 PG American Heritage 2021 (#36PHU 2021) – Winitana fills it up in several of the box scores, but since this is about scoring let’s focus on that stat. The oversized PG has managed to put up several monster performances on the season, highlighted by a 52 point performance against Merit College Prep a few weeks ago. Ask him to score and he’ll find a way to do it. In addition to finishing, he has shot nearly 40% from behind the arc.
Ethan Potter Ethan Potter 6'8" | SF Layton | 2021 State #194 Nation UT 6’8 PF Layton 2021 (#3PHU 2021) (featured image) – If the numbers are any indication, Utah Valley got an absolute steal. Potter has been remarkably consistent putting up at least 20 points in 14 of his 16 games. Perhaps his best performance came in a loss as the 6’8 forward put up 37 against American Fork.
Moroni Seely-Roberts 6’6 SF Grand County 2023 – MSR is the youngest player on the list, however, he puts up monster numbers just the same. The 6’6 wing has a few 30 point games, but perhaps his most remarkable stat is that he hasn’t scored below double digits this season. In fact, his lowest scoring outburst was 15 in a 91- 37 blowout victory.
Natarius Smith Natarius Smith 6'3" | SF Utah Military Academy | 2021 State UT 6’2 CG Utah Military Academy 2021 – The combo guard knows how to get buckets. While he won’t beat you with a ton of 3’s or free throws, he finds ways to put the ball in the basket. Smith is shooting over 60% from the field on the season, en route to averaging nearly 25ppg.
