Although the players may not be well known, they’ve been quietly finding themselves on college rosters for quite a while now. The 2023 class is one of the most loaded groups the city has seen in a long time, and they’re hungry to put their city on the radar. Here are some names you should be on the lookout for.
Kobe Parlin (2023 6’1 – CG, Mark Morris HS)
Parlin is a lefty that’s wired to score. He can knock down the open three and is a strong driver that plays through contact very well. Where he really shines is in the mid-range though. His dribble pull-up is a go-to of his, and for good reason.
Ethan Mitchell (2023 6’3 – PG, Kelso HS)
Mitchell has a smooth game. He looks like he’s moving in slow motion out there but always seems to find a way to the rim where he finishes with either hand. His best ability is his passing. His teammates know to always have their hands ready when he’s on the floor because a no-look pass is probably coming.
Deacon Dietz (2023 6’2 – SG, Mark Morris HS)
Dietz is a freak athlete that’s really starting to blossom. He uses his athleticism to slash to the rim oftentimes forcing the defense to foul him. He is super active defensively which leads to a lot of steals and blocks. In transition, defenders beware because he’s looking to make a poster. Super high motor.
Jaxson Cook (2023 6’7 – PF, RA Long HS)
Cook is a late bloomer that’s starting to find his niche. He has natural instincts defensively that help him impact the game on that side of the floor. He’s a good rebounder on both ends. He’s also improved his finishing around the rim. Every game his confidence seems to grow.
Trystin Marin (2023 5’10 – PG, Kelso HS)
Marin may be one of the best ball handlers in his class; he really has the ball on a string. Combine the handle with his quickness and it’s easy to see why getting by his defender is never really a problem. Defenders oftentimes give him space, but his improved jumper is making that more and more difficult.
Cavin Holden (2023 6’0 – PG, RA Long)
Holden is special. As soon as he steps into the gym he is within shooting range. He never hunts shots either; he just lets the game come to him. He’s improving his ability to get by defenders and finish at the rim. I’ve been told he’s been hitting the weights hard too which is scary for opposing defenders.
