This report takes a look at the wing players who stood out at the Arizona Winter Shootout that was held February 13-14 in Phoenix.
6’5 G/W Taj Degourville of Durango HS (NV) 2024 (Purple Reign)
Degourville is a very promising young prospect who brings a lot to the table. He can score a lot of different ways and he plays with unusual confident for a youngster. He can shoot the ball with long range. The release is a bit slow but he can nail it. He has a very nice floater and he is a solid driver. He does need to show more at the defensive end. Degourville has high major potential. Time will tell if he ends up there…
6’5 SF Isaiah Elohim of Heritage Christian HS (CA) 2024
Elohim is a big-time prospect and that is very easy to figure out if you watch him play. He’s a very athletic wing with nice burst who is a nice all-around scorer. Its very unique to have his kind of scoring prowess at such a young age. Drives, floaters, perimeter shot, pull-up game. Yes he does it all offensively. And he can rebound the ball too. Elohim is on the high major radar as one to follow in the class of 2022.
6’7 SF/PF Keither Florence of Colorado Prep 2021
Florence is an active and athletic combo forward with a versatile all-around offensive game. He runs the floor and can finish in transition. He has a nice one-bounce drive in the half court and he can elevate above the defender at the rim. He has a nice jump look on the block that is hard to guard. He moves fairly well without the ball and he does play in attack mode. And he is very active on the glass. Florence is a bona-fide Division I prospect.
6’4 G/W Josh Smith of Culver City HS (CA) 2021 (Cent City)
Smith had a impressive performance and put himself on the 2021 radar. He handles it fairly well and does a nice job finishing in transition. He is a decent shooter with 3 range who probably needs to prove himself a little more in this regard. He is also a capable rebounder. Smith will attract the attention of college coaches when they watch him play, no doubt.
6’5 SF Sterling Knox of Durango HS (NV) 2023 (Purple Reign)
Knox came through with a solid performance to show that he belongs on the mid major radar. He’s a fairly athletic three man with long arms. He can handle it and he’s a good passer who sees the court and can make plays in transition. Knox can get to the basket on the drive and he’s a fairly good 3-point shooter. A bright future lies ahead for this kid…
