Continue ReadingI caught the Calhoun High stream midway through the second quarter. Obviously, the 6-3 JD Davidson towers above the other high school guards. His head on a swivel, he actively surveys the floor pouncing on a ball hanging in the passing lane a little too long. Ball secured the streaking Davidson cranked a forceful windmill dunk to close the quarter. A few possessions into the second half he’d get downhill on a drive to draw a foul making both free throws. Two possessions later he creates the space for a missed stepback three, then hustles back on defense to be in the right place for a steal and another trip to the free-throw line after an intentional foul stopped him around the three point line. He’d make one of two FT.
In the halfcourt, Davidson catches the ball on the block using his size, strength, and athleticism to create against smaller guards. He sizes up the defense, driving left, finding an open man behind an emerging defender. With defense tightly closing, his teammate kicks back to Davidson who drives into a 360 lay that’s rewarded with foul shots. Later a play ends in a scramble, leaving Davidson entering the paint just as a teammate faces up. He’d hit Davidson on the cut for a dunk. In the fourth, a fastbreak ensues with Davidson at the head where lay in saved the rim from more punshiment. On the next trip down court, he throws a one-hand oop to a streaking teammate for an assist. A play later, the teammate returns the favor when Davidson drops the ball into the cylinder with ease. The Alabama commit finished the game with viral and 1 dunk the perfect exclamation point to an 11 point win.
An admirable part of his game is his activity level. On ball or off ball, defense or offense, Davidson is moving to make something happen.
I’m not much for football prospects but 2023 defensive end Keldric Faulk Keldric Faulk 6'6" | PF Highland Home | 2023 AL is a walking brick wall for Highland Home. He set heavy screens and gains good position on the block. A physical finisher with a knack for second chance plays. Faulk has the makings of a quick decision-maker that can distribute from the high post.
Latregan Cooper, a quick sophomore guard that shot the gap for steals making an and 1 layup on one sequence. Cooper showed accuracy and snap on his entry passes, zooming one pass by the ear of a Calhoun defender.
Standing 6-3 Terrin Brown looks the part of a guard college. He has a long chiseled frame and a nice shot from the outside. He finished the game with two made threes in as many attempts. He completes a solid 2023 Highland Home backcourt along with Cooper.
