Continue ReadingThe regular season is winding down, we only have two weeks left. The teams in the rankings stayed the same this week. All of the squads won out, except for Jamestown who had a battle with Minot. We are starting to get a good idea of who will be the top seeds at the end of the regular season. However, the teams need to take care of business and finishing the season on a high note.
Here are the ND Class A Power Rankings, a list of #1 to 5.
1. West Fargo Sheyenne – 17-1. The Mustangs continued with their winnings ways and picked up two more wins. They now have 17 consecutive wins, which is a school record. On Tuesday they beat South by 8 points. Friday night they had a close first half against North. In the second half, the Mustangs flexed their muscles and took care of business for a 90-75 victory. It looks like the Mustangs should win the last three games on their schedule. This coming week they play Grand Forks Red River on Tuesday and Grand Forks Central on Friday. Sheyenne has great height and talent in their frontcourt with Jacksen Moni Jacksen Moni 6'9" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , Jah’Heem Leake Jah’Heem Leake 6'8" | C West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , and Dominic Dosmann. They also have athletic guards who shoot it well from outside with Gage Anderson Gage Anderson 5'10" | PG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , Ben Manson Ben Manson 6'2" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , and Barika Kpeenu Barika Kpeenu 5'11" | PG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND . The Mustangs are hands down the best team in ND at this point in the season.
2. Minot – 16-1. The Magi are the best in the West. They had two great wins this weak and they were both tightly contested contests. On Tuesday they took down Bismarck Legacy 67-65 and Thursday they downed Jamestown 67-62. Minot struggled in the first half against Jamestown but came out hot in the second half. They held the Blue Jays to 24 points in the second half and the Magi put up 43 points. This coming week Minot plays Watford City on Monday and travel to Dickinson on Saturday. Deonte Martinez Deonte Martinez 5'10" | PG Minot | 2021 State ND , Eric Wentz Eric Wentz 6'2" | SG Minot | 2022 State ND , Darik Dissette Darik Dissette 6'4" | SG Minot | 2023 State #300 Nation ND , and Michael Ross Michael Ross 6'2" | SF Minot | 2021 State ND are the top players for Minot. If things go as planned, they will be 18-1 by this time next week.
3. West Fargo – 13-2. The Packers only played one game this week. On Tuesday they beat Grand Forks Central 87-48. This coming Tuesday the Packers host the Deacons from Shanley. On Friday they host Grand Forks Red River. West Fargo is currently the #2 seed in the EDC. The Packers get most of their scoring from four players. Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND is a sharp-shooting point-guard. Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND is a wing that shoots, slashes, and dunks. Joel Pease Joel Pease 6'5" | SF West Fargo | 2021 State ND is a stretch-four who shoots it well and can score in a variety of ways. Carter Birrenkott Carter Birrenkott 6'5" | PF West Fargo | 2021 State ND is the muscle for the Packers. He is a double-double machine with a beautiful runner/floater.
4. Fargo Davies – 13-4. The Eagles are still soaring. They won two games this week with a 79-54 score against Shanley and a 94-38 score against Devils Lake. This coming Tuesday Davies hosts Fargo South and on Friday they play at Fargo North. Unless there are some upsets, Davies will be the #3 seed at the end of the regular season. The Eagles, leading scorers are Owen Hektner Owen Hektner 6'6" | SF Fargo Davies | 2021 State ND , Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND , and Latrel Davis Latrel Davis 6'6" | SF Fargo Davies | 2021 State ND . The Eagles are playing great basketball right now and they are a hot team that nobody wants to play in the tournament.
5. Jamestown – 12-4. The Blue Jays had two difficult matchups this week. On Tuesday they beat Bismarck Century in OT 74-67. On Thursday they lost to Minot 67-62. Jamestown outplayed the Magi in the first half of that game but came up short down the stretch. This coming week the Blue Jays have an important matchup on Tuesday at Bismarck Legacy. This is an important matchup that will have implications on the #2 seed in the WDA. On Friday they have a long road trip to Williston. Carson Lamp Carson Lamp 6'0" | SG Jamestown | 2021 State ND is the stud guard for the Blue Jays. However, they have plenty of other skilled players with Brooks Carroll Brooks Carroll 6'3" | SF Jamestown | 2021 State ND , Jacob Hilgemann Jacob Hilgemann 6'2" | SG Jamestown | 2021 State ND , Luke Van Berkom Luke Van Berkom 6'8" | PF Jamestown | 2022 State ND , and Shea Carroll Shea Carroll 5'10" | PG Jamestown | 2021 State ND .
