Those teams are winning in a multitude of ways either through their offense, defense and sometimes both. This past weekend showcased the ability of teams being able to rally in second halves to come out with the victory. Let’s take a look at some of the best performances from the weekend.
Dominant 4th Quarter for Preston
Pocatello guard Ryan Payne Ryan Payne 5'10" | SG Pocatello | 2022 State ID was unstoppable all night, but especially in the third quarter where he scored 11 third-quarter points and netted a game-high 27 as Pocatello led 47-42 going into the fourth quarter. For a moment, it felt like a five-point lead was enough for them to hold off Preston.
Most teams would have folded but not Preston where they took on the challenge head-on coming out on a tear. They hit a gear many thought they wouldn’t have in the fourth. Leading them to taking the lead 54-51 in which they did not surrender, winning 67-62.
Gabe Hammons and Cole Harris combined for 41 points. Hammons was the story in the fourth by making contested jumper after contested jumper and being the senior leader commanding the floor. He ultimately took over in short bursts for Preston.
These two are so evenly matched, home-court will be crucial in the postseason.
Shurtliff and Bergholm battle to the end again!
West Side used a fourth-quarter edge to squeak out a 65-58 win over Soda Springs. The fourth quarter was a duel with West Side just making a couple more plays than Soda Springs.
This matchup featured two of the most exciting players in the area, West Side’s Bryler Shurtliff Bryler Shurtliff 6'1" | SG West Side | 2022 State ID and Soda Springs’ Brittan Bergholm. And the pair did not disappoint. Shurtliff scored a game-high 29 and Bergholm netted 21 with Shurtliff getting the win as well.
These two would take on the challenge against one another just as they did in the first meeting. Sometimes one could not wait what the other would do to try and outplay the other. These two guards are that special and never disappoint.
