In smaller towns and areas of the state with fewer teams, each game counts just a little bit more and most of these games have more closely resembled battles as opposed to sporting events. Lots of high-level basketball is being played across the state at this time and a number of players have shown their ability to improve their rankings heading into the postseason. Continue reading for a look at a few standout performances and game recaps from across the state.
Priest River vs. Bonners Ferry: In a matchup of teams approaching the Canadian border, Priest River and Bonners Ferry showed the skills and abilities of northern Idaho basketball players. Priest River used a stunning offensive performance to defeat the Wolverines from Bonners Ferry by a margin of 22 points. Priest River was able to post an 82-point performance thanks to a balanced attack and an impressive second half of scoring. Bonners Ferry attempted to make a comeback but their effort turned out to be too little and too late. Priest River looks like a solid team heading toward the state tournament and they may be underestimated coming from the north. Bonners Ferry was led by Braeden Blackmore Braeden Blackmore 6'2" | SG Bonners Ferry | 2023 State ID scoring 22 points and Priest River got their most help from Jordan Nortz and his 19 points as well as Trentyn Kreager Trentyn Kreager 6'2" | SG Priest River | 2022 State ID ’s game high 28 points.
Wendell vs. Castleford: Taking a trip down to southern Idaho, Wendell dominated Castleford in an impressive display of offensive superiority and defensive dominance. Wendell never looked back on their way to victory and held Castleford to only 31 total points for the entire game. Wendell did a great job of sharing the ball and had a lot of help from many of their players throughout the night. Castelford struggled agaisnt the offensive firepower of Wendell and could not overcome such a large deficit early on in the game. Castleford was led by a 12 point performance from Ethan Roland and Wendell’s victory was sparked by 25 points from Zane Kelsey.
