Combine got off to a quick start and took the lead but New Life would battle back, cutting the lead down to 7 going into the half. In the second half Combine caught fire from three point land and looked like they would go home with a double digit win, but New Life once again fought back, cutting a ten point lead down to three in the last two minuets. New Life would get a good look at a game tying three but the shot was slightly off and Combine was able to go home with a 72-67 win.
Combine Academy Regional Senior Guard Payton Lewis Payton Lewis 5'10" | PG Combine Academy | 2021 State NC showed the full arsenal of his game, attacking the basket for layups in the first half while showcasing some outstanding shooting ability in the second half. He doesn’t allow himself to get sped up, has deep shooting range on his shot and is solid on the defensive end.
New Life Christian Sophomore Guard Treymayne Parker is one of the new additions to the team but he fits in well with this group and is a difference maker almost immediately when he steps on the floor. The athleticism and scoring ability are what grabs your attention early on but he’s a gifted passer, solid rebounder and shows unselfishness with facilitating ability.
Combine Academy Regional Freshman Wing Braylhan Thomas didn’t play a high amount of minuets due to an injury that he was dealing with but it does not take much time watching him to see he’s a special prospect. He gets after it on both ends of the floor, understands how to get his spots offensively and has a nice natural feel for the game.
New Life Christian Senior Ricardo Polk found his rhythm early on and had an outstanding night shooting the ball, finishing with a team high of 21 Points on five made three point shots. Not only was he impressive offensively but he also took on the challenge of defending the leading scorer of the opposing team at times, making things more difficult for him in the fourth quarter.
Combine Academy Regional Sophomore Elijah Green has a smooth game, is an outstanding ballhandler and caused all types of issues for the defense in the first half. He broke down defenders to get into the paint to make plays, knocked down three point shots and brought good energy off the bench for his team.
New Life Christian Sophomore Malachi Travis Malachi Travis 6'2" | CG New Life Christian | 2023 State NC was solid throughout the day knocking down some shots from three point land and attacking the basket. We like the potential that Travis has to be a nice prospect over the next few years as he continues adding muscle to his frame, the upside he has to be special is clear.
