However, exciting games are still occurring before we reach the playoffs. Let’s take a look at some information that has come across my radar.
Paxton Kafka Paxton Kafka 6'5" | CG Cardinal Gibbons | 2021 State FL – Cardinal Gibbons
2021 Paxton Kafka Paxton Kafka 6'5" | CG Cardinal Gibbons | 2021 State FL did not disappoint on senior night. The 6-foot-5 forward scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a win over Nova. The win gives the Chiefs a 15-3 overall record. Moreover, Cardinal Gibbons dropped its three contests by a combined 17 points. Kafka has shooting range from the 3-point line and can finish in transition. He also set-up a nice transitional bucket off a block shot against the Titans. Take a look at some of his highlights by clicking here. 2021 shooting guard Trent Love added 18 points, while 2024 combo guard Casey Etienne Casey Etienne 6'1" | PG Cardinal Gibbons | 2024 FL Jr. finished with 14. Etienne Jr. already owns a state title on the football field and holds a 4.0 GPA.
Jonathan Joseph Jonathan Joseph 6'1" | PG King's Academy | 2021 State FL – The King’s Academy
2021 Jonathan Joseph Jonathan Joseph 6'1" | PG King's Academy | 2021 State FL powered the Lions to an easy win over Glades Day. The 6-foot-1 point guard scored 31 points and has his team sitting at 17-2 as of Thursday morning. Against Oxbridge Academy, Joseph scored 34 points and grabbed five rebounds. He is a lethal scorer anywhere on the floor and plays tough defense. Joseph averaged 17 points per game as a junior and helped the Lions to its best record (17-10) in three decades. “J.J.” recently scored his 1000th career point in a Lions uniform. He also plays football and holds a 3.3 GPA. Joseph was a preseason pick in Palm Beach County and is living up to my expectation. Look out for 6-foot-6 Zakaih Saez as well. The 215-pounder recently scored 35 points and is a rising star at defensive end/defensive tackle on the football field. He can use his size and toughness in either sport to his advantage.
Brandon Gilgeours – Chaminade-Madonna
2022 Brandon Gilgeours had a big game against Dade Christian. The 6-foot combo guard scored 19 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the 85-79 win. Moreover, Gilgeours went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. It was the 5th time over his last eight games that Gilgeours shot better than 45 percent from the field. His shot seems to be improving over the course of the season for the Lions. Against Somerset Prep, Gilgeours scored a season-high 27 points on 9-of-13 from the field. Look out for him down the stretch and into next season.
Lennox Scholl – North Miami
2021 Lennox Scholl was dominant on senior night for North Miami. The 6-foot-8 forward scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds (unofficially) in a 68-51 victory over rival North Miami Beach. Scholl has a nice combination of size and athleticism for a frontline big. He can carve out space for short range buckets or finesse you with up and under moves. Ox also runs the floor well in transition for a player of his size. Moreover, Scholl exploded off the wing for a slam dunk late in the contest. I thought he was the best player on the floor for the Pioneers on the night. Give credit to 2021 Johnsky Saintsurin Johnsky Saintsurin 6'4" | SF North Miami | 2021 State FL as well. Saintsurin scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds by my account. The 6-foot-4 forward is long and played much bigger than his listed height in my observation. In addition, Saintsurin grabbed some boards that were of high difficulty in my opinion. Both Scholl and Saintsurin can block shots and provide North Miami with strong interior rim protection.
Tyrieke Sterile Tyrieke Sterile 6'0" | CG North Miami Beach | 2022 State FL – North Miami Beach
Sterile was the best player for the Chargers against North Miami. The 6-foot wing scored a team-best 16 points, despite sitting for much of the fourth quarter. Sterile was aggressive attacking the basket early on and hit eight free-throws on the night. He is currently averaging 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for North Miami Beach. Sterile has an adequate shot and some range to his game. He hit five 3-pointers against Miami Springs and had four trifectas against Varela.
