Sectional 37: Delphi
The Teams: Delphi, Lewis Cass, North Newton, Rensselaer Central, Rochester, Winamac
Our Contenders: Rochester, Cass
Player To Watch: Kyle Reinartz (Rochester; 2021)
Prediction: The two teams that stand out immediately are Rochester and Lewis Cass. Rochester comes in with the best record by far, just one loss, and have a first-round bye too. They are led by a strong duo in Grant McCarter and Kyle Reinartz. For Cass, they sit at the other side of the bracket, without a bye, and would face a tough Rensselaer squad in the semifinals. I expect Rochester to come out of this sectional, but look out for Tristin Miller if Cass makes a deep run.
Sectional 34: Fountain Central
The Teams: Carroll (Flora), Clinton Prairie, Fountain Central, Rossville, Seeger, Western Boone
Our Contenders: Rossville, Carroll
Player To Watch: Damon Shaw (Rossville, 2021)
Prediction: It looks like it could be a relatively easy side of the draw for Rossville in this sectional. With a first-round bye, it would take on the winner of Seeger and Fountain Central, both teams that Rossville should handle easily. On the bottom, Carroll should be the team to face off against Rossville in the sectional final. Carroll has had an incredible season, winning 18-straight games earlier in the season, including a win over Rossville. While Carroll has loads of experience with guys like Ethan Duff, Kaleb Meek and Ryan Atkisson and Jaden Harness all playing at least three, if not four years in some cases, of varsity basketball, I think Rossville avenges the early season loss and comes out as the sectional winner.
Sectional 39: Blackford
The Teams: Blackford, Eastbrook, Madison-Grant, Sheridan, Taylor, Tipton
Our Contenders: Blackford, Madison-Grant
Player To Watch: Luke Brown Luke Brown 6'1" | PG Blackford | 2021 State IN (Blackford; 2021)
Prediction: Tough first game for Blackford, which lost to Madison-Grant earlier this season. Luke Brown Luke Brown 6'1" | PG Blackford | 2021 State IN vs the likes of Grant Brown Grant Brown 6'4" | SF Snider | 2022 State IN and Kaden Howell Kaden Howell 5'10" | PG Madison-Grant | 2021 State IN will be another great matchup. But, Brown is one of the most decorated scorers in Indiana high school basketball history, so I think he finds a way to lift Blackford to a win. After that, a matchup with Tipton awaits. Assuming Blackford can get past Madison-Grant, look for a section title to be in their future.
Sectional 40: Elmwood
The Teams: Alexandria Monroe, Elwood, Frankton, Lapel, Monroe Central, Wapahani, Winchester
Our Contenders: Winchester
Player To Watch: Payton Sparks Payton Sparks 6'10" | C Winchester | 2021 State IN (Winchester; 2021)
Prediction: The biggest matchup comes in round one as Winchester takes on Wapahani. A good battle between Ball State signee and Winchester big Payton Sparks Payton Sparks 6'10" | C Winchester | 2021 State IN and Wapahani’s Caleb Henderson, assuming Winchester can get by, it’ll be their sectional to lose. Winchester is just too talented and experienced for some of the other teams in the bracket.
