But the lean 6-foot-7, 185-pound Westview standout decided instead to focus on school and work out on his own, adding muscle to his lean frame and keeping up his personal fitness. He recently has been working out with his Wildcat teammates and it’s been great for him to get back in the gym.
“It’s been hard to find a place to play basketball but I’ve got a buddy whose church I go to, and playing at the park,” Grady said. “So it’s been super nice. Obviously everyone’s in the same boat and not everyone is getting this opportunity that we are, and we’re getting some good work in and it’s been a lot of fun.”
Since schools in Washington County haven’t been cleared to go full contact just yet, the focus has been on skill work and Grady has been honed in getting up plenty of perimeter shots – something he’s been working on all off-season.
“I feel like I was a good shooter last year I was just kind of lacking the confidence,” Grady said. “I feel like this year I’ve got a lot better with the confidence piece and I think it’s going to show during the season.”
Grady is also hoping to show that continued improvement in his game to college coaches. Since we last caught up with him last summer, he’s picked up his first roster spot offer from Pacific University. He notes that other D-III schools in Oregon and California have been in contact, and a couple of others such as Colorado Christian and Cal State Maritime – the latter of which happens to be about 40 minutes away from his father’s residence.
At this point, Grady is taking it all in with the process. “I’m not at the top of the list (for these schools) obviously, I’m aware of that,” Grady said. “I’m applying to bunch of schools, I’m still talking to schools and weighing all my options because it’s a blessing to be where I am. I’m just going to wait and see and I’m just going to keep putting the work in.”
With the season a couple of months away, Grady is looking forward to his final year at the high school level and has high hopes for big things. “I think I think we’re gonna be really good this year,” Grady said. “Last year we obviously lost nine seniors, so me, Brady (Grier), Jalen (Grable), and Keshav (Anand) are all going to have a much bigger role than we did even last season. We’re going try and make the best out of it.”
Grady currently ranks as the #64 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
