Some guys, particularly guards, use their quickness to track down balls on the ground or that kick far off the goal. There are a lot of ways guys can contribute on the glass.
Though statistics can be a little bit hit-and-miss at this time of year, here are some guys we know are among the top rebounders around:
Tyus Wilson Tyus Wilson 6'6" | PF Sterling | 2021 State KS , senior, Sterling:
We don’t need current stats to know this guy can go get it. His 13.6 board average last year was highest in the state according to one site – Wilson was first team 2A as a junior. We don’t need stats to know what this freakish 6-foot-6 leaper can do. His 7-foot-1 high jump was the highest recorded by a high schooler in 2020. He recently committed to the track program at University of Nebraska. Sterling recently moved into the #9 spot in the 2A rankings.
Taylor Cable Taylor Cable 6'1" | SF Ness City | 2022 State KS , junior, Ness City:
Though just 6-foot-1, Cable goes after rebounds like a big man. He’s currently one of the tops in the state with 14.4 boards per contest. Cable earned honorable mention 1A as a sophomore, when he pulled in 9.8 rebounds a game.
Nick Hogan Nick Hogan 6'5" | SF Eisenhower | 2021 State KS , senior, Eisenhower (pictured):
Probably a bit underappreciated, Hogan is getting it done for Eisenhower this year. In addition to scoring 17 points per game, the 6-foot-5 big man is one of the state’s leading rebounders with a 13.9 average. His game is predicated on strength, intelligence, and a relentlessness for the rebound.
Cameron Campuzano, senior, Rural Vista:
Laboring at a small school, the solid 6-foot-2 senior is just a rebounding machine. He’s currently pulling in about 13 rebounds per game. And it’s no fluke. He averaged 11.7 last season, making him one of the most productive rebounders in the state over the past two seasons combined.
Sterling Chapman Sterling Chapman 6'4" | CG Campus | 2021 State KS , senior, Campus:
Putting up big rebounding numbers at the big-school level is the 6-foot-5 Chapman. His a long and athletic guard/wing who can actually play just about every position on the floor. When it comes time to go to the glass, he does it with height, length, explosiveness and instinct. His 13 boards a game is one of the tops in the state.
Trever Quaney, junior, Burlingame:
One of the top big men in the small-school ranks, the 6-foot-7 junior is hauling in 11.7 boards per game for the Bearcats. He flew under the radar a bit as a sophomore, when he recorded 9 rebounds a game. He should be in line for more recognition after this season.
Jerrit Norris, sophomore, Troy:
A young player who won’t go short on recognition is Norris. He was one of the state’s top big freshmen last year, recording 9.7 boards per contest, in addition to 11 points per game. This year the 6-foot-4 Norris is averaging 10.2 boards a game, to go with more than 18 points per outing.
Owen Braxmeyer Owen Braxmeyer 6'1" | CG Manhattan | 2021 State KS , senior, Manhattan:
We should include on of the top rebounding guards around, the 6-foot-1 senior leader of the Indians. Braxmeyer is athletic and aggressive, and has to do just about everything for Manhattan this year. He’s using his relentlessness, athleticism and experience to produce 10 boards a game at the 6A level.
