The athletic 6-foot-4, 180-pound wing from Tigard has literally been running and jumping his way onto the radar playing with Elite 24’s Grey squad and college coaches need to be on alert. The high-academic standout is hopeful that all the work he’s put in the past few months will give him the right playing at the next level.
It’s been a challenge with how things have been but Moss has taken what he’s been given. “At the beginning I focused a lot on getting in really good running shape because there weren’t any gyms open to shoot in,” Moss said. “One of my coaches offered a hill sprint workout that I did every other day for a couple months. I then started working out and running through football practices that I was doing at the time. After that I continued running on my own as well as getting my shots up at shoot360 multiple times per week.”
“As things started opening up I started traveling for basketball and began playing with Elite24,” Moss continued. “Since then I’ve been into a lot of 1 on 1 basketball training and lessons with coaches at shoot360 and my team coach at Redline athletics and am currently still doing. Now that restrictions have lifted a little I’ve also started team workouts for my high school. I’ve been working a lot on my 2 foot jumps and going hard through the lanes. Working on my explosiveness and getting up above defenders.”
The work that Moss has put in has shown on the court in the tournaments he’s played with Elite24. Always a high-energy, high-motor player, he’s flying up and down the court on both ends, using his explosiveness to finish strong above the rim in transition. In half-court settings, he’s flashed a sweet step-back jumper and the ability to create off the dribble.
“I feel like I’ve been doing really well as a leader on this team,” Moss said. “I’ve been focusing on translating what I’ve been working on in practices into the games and have seen a lot of improvement through the tournaments. I’ve been shooting, scoring, dribbling, passing, and defending better than I have before.”
College coaches have started to get wind of his abilities and potential. The possessor of a 3.8 GPA (4.13 weighted), it’s no surprise that D-III programs have started getting in contact. Of note is Lewis & Clark, of which Moss has talked with head coach Tim McCrory but he’s keeping an open ear to everything.
“I’m hoping to generate more with the rest of the Spring schedule,” Moss said. “My goal is to play basketball at the next level. It’s been a slow start because of the COVID restrictions and no high school season (so far) but am looking to continue exploring my options. My goal is to come out and really show people everything I’ve been working on this past year and display that on the court.”
“I’m lucky to have a good group of guys on both my AAU team and Tigard team, you can make a lot of things happen with that good team chemistry,” Moss said. “A personal goal is to give every game my best effort and leave everything on the court.”
Moss currently ranks as the #34 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
