Continue ReadingTo round out the week we are going to look at mainly junior guards and a sophomore guard who have the chance to see their stocks really hike up with a solid run in the post season. This group has been putting together a real solid individual season as well with some team success.
Jinwoo Kim Jinwoo Kim 6'1" | PG Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS , 6’3 G, 2022, Blue Valley Southwest (Pictured): The BVSW guard has been really explosive in his last 5 games scoring the ball especially in transition where he can get out the wings running and make plays. He is currently averaging 14.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. Kim and his squad have the potential to make a little noise in substate and maybe scare some teams, and his ability to score the ball will be a reason why. He has not shot the 3 particularly well consistently but he has had flashes especially when left open off the catch, where he can get going from out there and really round out his game.
Dameion Hatten Dameion Hatten 6'3" | CG Sedan | 2022 State KS , 6’3 G, 2022, Sedan: A great athlete and a new addition to the 1,000 point club as a junior, Hatten is an intriguing small town 2022 prospect who with a big run in sub state could really get on peoples radars. He is terrific in transition with his frame and athleticism and has a knack for getting into passing lanes or pushing the break off rebounds. He is averaging close to a double double with 19.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.
Marcus Zeigler Jr Marcus Zeigler Jr 6'2" | PG Wichita Heights | 2023 State KS , 6’1 G, 2023, Heights (Wichita): The sophomore guard is a fun and integral piece to a pretty solid Heights squad out of Wichita. He has the tools in his game to be a really solid all around guard, he defends, jumps passing lanes extremely well, gets down hill on drives, has a solid shot, and has the handles and passing to become a really good playmaker. It will be fun to see what levels Zeigler can get to come post season play when the competition and urgency ramps up and to see what momentum he can build heading into the spring and summer seasons as well.
Xander Newberry, 6’ G, 2022, Attica: The lefty out of Attica is putting together a really strong season. He is a good shooter both off the move and stationary and can play off the bounce against tough closeouts. He has good size to him and he uses his body well, especially when attacking the glass for rebounds. He is currently averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds per game hoping to help lead Attica down a long playoff road.
Walker Adams, 6’ G, 2022, Pleasant Ridge: Probably the best pure shooter on this list, Adams has a cannon from beyond the 3 point line and plays with extreme confidence when shooting the ball. He has shown the ability to get extremely hot from deep and completely change ball games, for instance going 9 of 11 from 3 in a win a couple of weeks ago. His ability to drop a barrage of 3’s can change any game come sub state time for Pleasant Ridge.
Brian Perry Jr Brian Perry Jr 6'3" | SG Andover Central | 2023 State KS , 6’4 Wing, 2023, Andover Central: Central is young and starting to grow week by week and they will be very intriguing to keep an eye on for next season. However, they will be no easy out, and a young and hungry player like Brian Perry Jr Brian Perry Jr 6'3" | SG Andover Central | 2023 State KS will be a big reason why. He is on my radar for next year for sure, so his post season performance will be something that could really elevate him. He has the athletic traits and the frame to be a big time wing, and has shown a great ability to knock down open shots. As the playmaking ability grows we should see his game get to the next level. he is currently averaging 9.8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. His range that he covers on defense is terrific and his energy and bounciness will make him fun to watch when the post season games heat up.
