While we were unable to physically be in attendance, the BallerTV live stream allowed us to get a closer look at the strong amount of California-based prospects who attended the event. Below are some of the players who stood out.
Yaqub Mir, 2023, Granite Bay – Mir is a three-level scorer type of guard who can play both on or off the ball depending on matchups. The 6-foot-2 sophomore is a consistent three-point shooter off the catch or off the bounce, but can also do some damage with a one or two-dribble pull-up jumper, as well. What we like most about Mir’s game is his high basketball IQ and ability to let the game come to him rather than force actions that aren’t there.
David Mack, 2024, Fairfax – Mack has a knack for putting the ball in the basket. He spaces the floor well with his catch-and-shoot three-point consistency, but can also use the bounce to get by defenders and either pull up for a mid-range jumper or hit a soft-touched floater at the 10-foot level. Mack is extremely confident in his scoring abilities and didn’t back down from any challenge.
Christopher Carter, 2022, Shadow Hills – Carter looked to be a high-energy, jack-of-all-trades type of wing who is willing to do the intangible things on the court whether it’s running down a 50-50 ball to create an extra possession for his team or locking down for a defensive stop. The 6-foot-3 junior has a smooth pull-up jump shot that he can hit consistently at the mid-range level.
Jalen Encinas, 2022, Vanden – Encinas popped off the screen immediately during his games as his all-around feel for the point guard position really stood out. Encinas played with impressive pace, poise and unselfishness which resulted in him dishing out a handful of helpers to teammates in both transition and half-court offensive opportunities. Scoring-wise, the 5-foot-11 junior is a consistent shooting threat from three-point range off the catch and has soft touch off the glass when needed.
