While we were unable to physically be in attendance, the BallerTV live stream allowed us to get a closer look at the strong amount of California-based prospects who attended the event. Below are some of the players who stood out.
Shamar Jones, 2025 – While still a couple years away from making his high school debut, Jones’ performance at the Best of the West Showcase put him on the radar as one of the top west coast prospects to monitor moving forward. The 6-foot-4 wing/guard has a feel for the game well beyond his years and has an advanced scoring package, as well. Jones was best in transition where he finished above the rim with authority and used is strength to absorb and finish through contact.
Curtis Williams Curtis Williams 6'6" | SF Etiwanda | 2023 State #159 Nation CA-S , 2023, Etiwanda – Williams has sprouted up a couple more inches and now stands at 6-foot-4+, nearing 6-feet-5. The Etiwanda sophomore plays with a smooth pace, great patience in the half-court setting and does a nice job getting into the paint off the bounce to set teammates up. Williams has a smooth and consistent shooting stroke from three-point range and we hope to see him make some noise on the varsity level if we’re able to have a season here in SoCal.
Will Smith, 2023, Bishop Montgomery – Smith brought his physical presence and no-nonsense approach to the event and it helped him be productive on both ends of the floor. Smith boasts a strong, well-built frame that allows him to compete on the offensive and defensive boards and guard multiple positions successfully. His tough, hard-nosed approach are traits that could help him see some early varsity minutes.
Mister Burnside, 2024, Paraclete – Burnside is one of the top freshmen prospects in Southern California due to his advanced feel for the game at the point guard spot and his ability to make dynamic plays in the open court and half-court settings. Burnside has a varsity-ready frame at 6-feet-3 with a strong upper body which he combines with speed, quickness and ability to change speeds and direction on a dime.
