While we were unable to physically be in attendance, the BallerTV live stream allowed us to get a closer look at the strong amount of California-based prospects who attended the event. Below are some of the players who stood out.
Jermaine Rogers II Jermaine Rogers II 6'1" | SG Ayala | 2022 CA-S , 2022, Ayala – There’s never a question about whether Rogers is engaged or not as his motor is always running at 100 percent. The 6-foot-3 combo guard is relentless when attacking the basket off the bounce and uses that energy, and his strong frame, to draw contact resulting in trips to the free throw line. Rogers has steadily improved his jump shot off the bounce and off the catch.
Kelcy Phipps, 2023, Bishop Montgomery – It comes as no surprise that Bishop Montgomery has yet another talented young scorer coming up the ranks. Phipps fits the bill as “wired to score” as he does so in a variety of ways with a smoothness that borders on effortless. The 6-foot-2 sophomore has a buttery stroke from three-point range, rebounds well for his position and has the strength and athleticism to rise up and finish through contact around the rim.
Gabriel Cummings Gabriel Cummings 6'2" | SG Long Beach Poly | 2022 State CA-S , 2022, Long Beach Poly – Cummings remains one of SoCal’s top pure shooters as the pandemic has done little to affect his smooth lefty form. The 6-foot-3 junior is best when creating space off of pin-down screens or dribble hand-offs where he can let one fly from deep off the catch or off of one or two bounces. Cummings, when pressured on the perimeter, has the ability to drive left and find open teammates with his vision and passing.
Kristian Jemerson Kristian Jemerson 6'4" | SF Fairmont Prep | 2022 State CA-S , 2022, Fairmont Prep – The 6-foot-3 wing was of the “wiry” variety when it came to describing his body type as a freshman and sophomore, but it’s clear that the junior has put work in in weight room. Jemerson can still shoot it from distance with consistency, but his added strength has improved his ability to get to the basket and finish through contact in both the half-court and transition settings.
