In this article:
It’s been two weeks, which means it’s time for a new batch of OHSAA power rankings. As always, this is based on resume and not based off talent. Tweet @mikerothou for any comments or feedback for these rankings and he’ll try and answer any questions you may have. With that being said, let’s see who is at the top of the rankings to start the month of February.
Division III
- Lutheran East (7-1)
- Worthington Christian (16-1)
- Colonel Crawford (16-0)
- Harvest Prep (9-0)
- Africentric (3-1)
- Ottawa-Glandorf (11-3)
- Wheelersburg (15-0)
- Eastern Brown (17-1)
- Fort Frye (12-2)
- Fairland (9-3)
Watch list (NO ORDER)
Western Reserve (Collins) (13-1) Taft (9-4) Johnstown (12-4) Bishop Ready (7-4) North Union (13-2) Centerburg (10-2) Fredericktown (15-1) Beachwood (3-1) Columbia (9-2) Adena (17-2) Preble Shawnee (16-3)
Lutheran East and Worthington Christian are neck and neck for the top spot. I’m giving the Lue the edge because their loss at home to Buchtel is more forgiving than Worthington Christian’s defeat at Dublin Jerome. Both teams are very talented and experienced with a lot of size. They will be tough to beat in the playoffs. Colonel Crawford stays high in these ranking by staying unbeaten. Harvest Prep had their game against Ottawa-Glandorf cancelled, which really disappoints myself as I was looking forward to attending that one. Africentric got started last week and with three city league wins and a loss to Pickerington Central, I put them in fifth in our division III rankings. Ottawa-Glandorf lost to Lima Shawnee and Rossford on back to back nights, no shame in that. Wheelersburg and Eastern Brown continue to take care of business, alongside Fairland and Adena the Southeast Division III district looks stronger than previous years. Fort Frye beat Fairland and their only two losses are to borderline top 10 Division II team in Warren, so the Cadets stay in the top 10. Luke Rowlinson Luke Rowlinson 6'4" | SG Western Reserve (Collins | 2021 State OH and the Roughriders of Western Reserve just have one blemish on their record this season. Taft fell for a second time to Woodward and lost to Dayton Dunbar, they needed at least one of them to stay in the top 10. Johnstown and Bishop Ready both have impressive victories but their four losses have them just outside the top 10. North Union went unbeaten last season and despite taking a couple losses is very much alive in a LOADED pair of Columbus Division III districts. Centerburg defeated Fredericktown in a game that could decide the KMAC title. Beachwood got blasted by Richmond Heights, but the Spartans will do that to most Division III and IV squads. Columbia is scoring almost 100 points a game, but Firelands gave them all they could handle after the Raiders split a pair of games with the Falcons. Finally, Preble Shawnee led by star freshman Mason Shrout Mason Shrout 6'4" | SF Preble Shawnee | 2024 State OH deserve some love from the Dayton area in Division III.
Division IV
- Richmond Heights (7-4)
- Columbus Grove (12-1)
- Tri-Village (18-0)
- Antwerp (13-1)
- Botkins (15-3)
- Cedarville (13-1)
- Ottoville (14-2)
- Toledo Christian (12-3)
- McDonald (14-0)
- Dalton (10-3)
Watch list (NO ORDER)
Jackson Center (14-5) Fort Loramie (12-6) New Boston Glenwood (15-1) Trimble (10-2) Convoy Crestview (13-4) Lincolnview (12-3) Kalida (13-4) Cincinnati College Prep (8-1) Shenandoah (13-2)
Richmond Heights got impressive wins over Beachwood and Revere, don’t look past their four losses. Columbus Grove is getting healthy and running through teams. Layne Sarver Layne Sarver 6'4" | SF Tri-Village | 2022 State OH and Tri-Village continue to race past SW Ohio teams. Antwerp won an overtime battle with Division IV giants when Botkins came to town. Cedarville got some impressive victories against teams in higher divisions recently. Ottoville hasn’t lost in 2021. Toledo Christian lost a key conference game to Cardinal Stritch, which drops them a couple spots. McDonald is shooting the lights out of the basketball this season. Dalton has only lost to teams in higher divisions than them. Jackson Center and Fort Loramie have a handful of good wins against very tough schedules. New Boston Glenwood and Trimble are the class of Division IV in SEO. Crestview, Lincolnview and Kalida are knocking on the door in Division IV from NW Ohio that will be a brutal region to win. Cincy College Prep continues to win in the CMAC other division. Shenandoah has only lost to Fort Frye twice, a top 10 division III team.
