Here are some northeast Kansans known for their consistency (in alphabetical order):
Kaleb Becker Kaleb Becker 6'4" | SF Abilene | 2022 State KS , junior, Abilene:
The 6-foot-4 Becker is always working hard, running the floor and providing consistent rebounding. On the offensive end, he’s like clockwork,. He only has one game this season with fewer than 15 points. He never explodes for huge point totals, but he’s always in the 15-19 range.
Lafe Blevins, senior, Doniphan West:
Doniphan West has had an up-and-down season, with some nice wins and some blowout losses. But point guard Blevins has been a consistent and productive leader. He has just one game on the season with fewer than 10 points, and he consistently tosses in 13-17 points per game. The Mustangs are improved after wining just five games last year and averaging just 30 points per game, and it’s mostly due to Blevins’ leadership.
Owen Braxmeyer Owen Braxmeyer 6'1" | CG Manhattan | 2021 State KS , senior, Manhattan (pictured):
The Indians have been in a tough rebuilding year. Accustomed to being surrounded by veterans, Braxmeyer has had to take a leadership role this year. But the tough guard/wing comes to play every night and is consistent in his effort and presence, even when his stats vary. He’s almost always good for 14-19 points per game, with an occasional bump into the 20s. His defense and intensity never takes a night off, and he’s one of the best rebounding guards around.
Braden Heins, junior, Northern Heights:
It’s been tough sledding for the Wildcats after winning the Flint Hills League last year. They lost some senior stars. Now Heins, a key component on that championship team, is trying to lead the team into a new era. He’s really consistent, especially considering opponents know he’s the Vikings’ primary threat. He’s scored in double figures in all but one game this season, and gets it done from the perimeter, on the drive and in transition.
Emmitt Jueneman Emmitt Jueneman 6'1" | SF Hanover | 2022 State KS , junior, Hanover:
Jueneman doesn’t usually have to produce tons of points for the Wildcats. They typically blow out opponents and play reserves for a good portion of the game. But Jueneman is about as consistent in his production as you can be on a team accustomed to blowouts. The 6-foot-2 guard is athletic, explosive and versatile. He is always good for at least 17 points, and frequently bumps up into the 20s even with limited playing time.
Zeke Mayo Zeke Mayo 6'4" | CG Lawrence | 2021 State KS , senior, Lawrence:
Is there a more consistent player on the big-school level? Mayo has his Lions ranked #3 in 6A, and he’s the catalyst night in, night out. He never takes a night off, and his game lends itself to consistency. He gets to the line a ton, has a mix of outside shooting and penetration, and is always up for the challenge of having a bulls eye on his back. He has scored at least 17 points in every game this season, with eight of those going in the 20s.
Dawson Zenger Dawson Zenger 6'1" | CG Rock Creek | 2021 State KS , senior, Rock Creek:
Maybe the only thing more impressive than Zenger’s incredible scoring totals is how consistently he does it. Every opponent knows just what Rock Creek is out to do, and yet Zenger just keeps racking up the points. He has held below 23 points just three times this season, and that was usually in a blowout. Imagine being consistent in scoring over 30! Zenger does that about once out of every three games!
