As a card carrying member of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, I aim to celebrate Groundhog Day each year by watching Needle-nose Ned get decked in the face by Phil Connors at least once. At the time of writing this article, I am not sure if Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow or not, but I am predicting 6-more weeks of high school basketball! Jerome vs. Canyon Ridge: Jerome faced a tough opponent in Canyon Ridge recently in their conference matchup. Jerome cruised to a 17 point victory after leading the majority of the game and capping off the win with great play on both ends of the court down the stretch. Canyon Ridge could not match Jerome’s scoring ability and fell behind throughout the game before ultimately being behind for good at the sound of the final buzzer. Jerome was led by Mikey Lloyd Mikey Lloyd 6'4" | SG Jerome | 2022 State ID chipping in 26 points and Schuyler Mower contributed 13 points in the victory. Canyon Ridge was led by Ryker Holtzen scoring 17 points.
Mountain Home vs. Burley: Burley and Mountain Home competed hard in their conference battle and Burley proved themselves to be a team with more endurance by the end of the game. The game was tied heading into the fourth quarter, but Burley was able to will themselves to victory behind a 22-2 fourth quarter run. Mountain Home simply could not keep up with this run and ended up dropping this contest after a close game and a great battle for the first three quarters. Burley was led by 12 points apiece from Stockton Page and Adam Kloepfer. Brandon Bethel Brandon Bethel 5'11" | PG Mountain Home | 2022 State ID was the high scorer for the game with 14 points for Mountain Home.
