Continue ReadingAs we go through all the film available from the HoopSource President’s Day Showcase, we have seen a number of players we are familiar with who have made some strides on their development curve. As we gather data for our next rankings update, we foresee a shift upward for a few guys. Here’s a look at the top stock risers from last weekend’s action.
Devon Malcolm Devon Malcolm 6'4" | SF South Medford | 2022 State OR , A-Train Magic (2022 Butte Falls)
Considering Malcolm is already in the top five he’s not going to really rise much in terms of raw numbers, but there’s no question that the super-athletic 6-foot-4 swingman is trending upward. He was physically dominant at times over the weekend and even showed that he was capable of knocking down perimeter shots. Malcolm’s immense potential is obvious as he continues to develop his perimeter skills.
Jacob Axmaker Jacob Axmaker 6'0" | CG Stayton | 2022 State OR , All-Around Players (2022 Stayton)
After seeing him perform over the weekend, we are convinced that Axmaker is one of the best deep shooters in the state. The 6-foot lead guard is a threat to pull-up from practically anywhere within the half-court line and he was draining threes from well beyond three-point range. Far from just a shooter, Axmaker also created off the dribble and dished off some nice-looking passes to teammates for open scores.
Dimitri Cohen Dimitri Cohen 5'11" | CG Mountainside | 2022 State OR , Mountainside (2022 Mountainside)
We had been warned that Cohen was a player of the future and from what we saw at the President’s Day Showcase, the future is now. The 5-foot-10 point guard was confident with the basketball, hitting long range shots with consistency as well as getting into the lane and finishing around the hoop in acrobatic ways. The lefty will be one to watch this season at Mountainside for sure.
Junior Sleezer Junior Sleezer 6'2" | CG South Medford | 2022 State OR , A-Train Magic (2022 South Medford)
Sleezer has intrigued us from the very first time we saw him playing with South Medford last season and he continues to develop as a big lead guard. At -foot-2, he sees well over the defense and does a good job of getting into the lane and passing it out to open teammates for shots. Sleezer spotted up for threes and also got some buckets around the hoop as well.
Graham Eikenberry Graham Eikenberry 6'10" | PF St Andrew’s RI | 2023 State OR , Active PCH Leaders (2023 Central Catholic)
The young big man came off the bench for Active PCH and was a factor not only with his size, but with his skill. At 6-foot-9 he understands his role down low and has the fundamentals down with simple things such as footwork, positioning, and keeping the ball high. Eikenberry had a soft touch around the hoop and gobbled up rebounds on both ends.
