Hoops 2.0 has been hosting various showcases for the past couple of months, including their most recent one this past Sunday 2/21.
Some of the top talent in Northern and Southern California participated in the event, and here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts.
1. Rondell Moore Rondell Moore 6'1" | CG Fremont | 2021 State CA-S – Fremont 2021
Moore is one of the most underrated wing prospects in SoCal. He’s got a real smooth midrange shot and he can pull-up and shoot off the dribble or get all the way to the rim. Nice little step back jumper. An unselfish player who can balance scoring and playmaking. He’s very athletic and gets up high around the rim. He can finish through contact in the paint.
2. Elijah Nelson Elijah Nelson 6'2" | SG Lakewood | 2023 State CA-S – Fountain Valley 2023
Nelson is an intriguing wing prospect who is comfortable with the ball in his hands. He can attack the basket and he’s a strong ball-handler. Likes to drive baseline and find open bigs around the rim. He can get out in the open court and finish at the rim. He’s a solid defensive player; he has quick hands and good length to bother opponents shots. Good defender in transition.
3. Jonathan Nelson – Artesia 2021
Nelson is a bit of a versatile big who can stretch the floor with his outside shooting. He can put the ball on the floor at times and make a move to the rim. He really moves well without the ball. He makes strong cuts to the rim and he has good hands, finishes strong. He’s got good size and some high upside as a late bloomer. Should be on someone’s radar.
4. Dreshaun Doyne – Southern California Academy 2021
A Central Arkansas commit, this was my second time seeing Doyne play in person and he’s got such a great motor. He’s very active around the rim and he’s a strong rebounder. He can get out in transition and he’s a very strong finisher at the rim. He also has range out to the three-point line. I like his defensive play as well, he can be a solid rim protector.
