Hoops 2.0 has been hosting various showcases for the past couple of months, including their most recent one this past Sunday 2/21.
Some of the top talent in Northern and Southern California participated in the event, and here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts.
1. Darius Carr Darius Carr 6'3" | SG Fairfax | 2023 State #63 Nation CA-S – 2023
Carr used to be at St Bernard, but he’s since departed from the program and he’s one of the top combo guards in SoCal. He really came on strong last season and he looks improved every time I’ve seen him play. He’s grown and has the body for shooting guard with point guard skills. Comfortable creating his own shot. Strong ball-handler who can break down the defense. Can finish at the rim and shoot from the outside.
2. Jeff Udensi – Morningside 2021
Udensi is a consistent threat from three-point range. He’s a good catch and shoot player from the outside and he can shoot off the dribble in the midrange. He’s got a really smooth shot and he’s confident in it, let’s it fly with no hesitation. He’s a tough defensive player who applies strong pressure on the ball-handler. Plays with a strong motor; he hustles and dives for loose balls.
3. Ben Shtolzberg Ben Shtolzberg 6'4" | SG Notre Dame | 2022 State CA-S – Southern California Academy 2022
Shtolzberg continues to look like one of the top point guard prospects in SoCal. He really controls the pace of the game with the ball in his hands and quarterbacking the offense. Steps into his shot well and he’s a threat to score from anywhere on the court. He’s a very good outside shooter and he can get to his spots with no wasted motion. Strong shooter off the dribble. Good court vision.
4. Jimmy Oladokun – Damien 2023
Oladokun is one of the most intriguing frontcourt prospects in SoCal. I first saw him play back in June and what stood out the most to me was his versatility defensively. He can be a rim protector in the paint and he has the mobility to keep up with players on the perimeter. He’s a stretch-four type player who can draw the defense out with his shooting. A soldi midrange shooter. He’s active around the rim and he’s a good rebounder.
