The most recent of those was this past weekend and the event featured a lot of top CA talent. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts from the event.
1. David Manea David Manea 6'6" | SF Orange Lutheran | 2023 CA-S – Beckman 2023
Manea is a pretty versatile player in the frontcourt. He’s got guard-like skills and he can play in the paint. He has solid handles and he has good vision in the halfcourt, unselfish player who can find cutters and open shooters. He can also shoot off the dribble and he’s got a good three-point shot. He can get to the rim and he finishes well through contact. Overall skilled player with some high upside.
2. Kailen Arnold – Morningside 2021
Arnold is solid floor leader, he’s what you want in a point guard. He pushes the pace and really gets out in transition. He keeps his head up and finds his teammates on the break. He’s got a very quick step, puts pressure on the defense with his slashing. He’s an athletic and crafty finisher at the rim who protects the ball and can absorb contact. Uses screens well to free himself for a jumper.
3. Gavin Davis – TMG Prep 2021
Davis is an athletic rim runner who shoots out on the break and is a finisher in transition. He looks slight, but he’s strong and active around the rim especially scoring-wise. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective, he makes strong backdoor cuts and he finishes lob passes. Good length and good defender on ball. He also uses his length to contest shots at the rim. Able to play multiple positions.
4. Jorge Ochoa Jorge Ochoa 6'8" | PF La Mirada | 2022 CA-S – Phoenix Prep 2022
Ochoa may have switched states, but he’s a SoCal player born and raised. He’s always had a pretty versatile skill-set for a big man, but what really stood out to me was his improved shot off the dribble. I hadn’t seen him play in while, but he really looks more comfortable shooting off the dribble and little fadeaways in the midrange. It makes him more well-rounded offensively. Has consistent range out to the three-point line.
