Hoops 2.0 has been hosting various showcases for the past couple of months, including their most recent one this past Sunday 2/21.
Some of the top talent in Northern and Southern California participated in the event, and here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts.
1. Garrett Andre Garrett Andre 6'9" | C Villa Park | 2021 State CA-S – Villa Park 2021
Andre is a very skilled and talented player in the post. He has good patience; doesn’t force anything when making his move. He’s active in the paint and he gets good post position, he’s slight but he’s strong. He has a nice little hook shot that many players don’t have. Good mobility on defense, he times his blocks and protects the rim. Good rebounder and good free-throw shooter.
2. Roddie Anderson Roddie Anderson 6'1" | PG Fountain Valley | 2022 State CA-S – Fountain Valley 2022
Anderson is one of the top rising guard prospects in SoCal. He just got his first Division 1 offer from UC San Diego in the Big West. He’s an explosive guard with a good slashing game. I’ve seen him play a couple of times now at Hoops 2.0 and he’s tough to guard off the dribble. He’s comfortable creating his own shot and he’s got a nice fadeaway jumper. He’s a playmaker too; good drive and kick game to the open shooters.
3. David Moon – Laguna Hills 2021
Moon is a solid point guard. I’ve also seen him at a couple Hoops 2.0 events and he’s impressed with his solid court awareness and vision. He’s patient and knows when to pass and look for his teammates. He’s got a nice drive and dish game. He can break down the defense off dribble penetration and get into the lane. He draws the defense and kicks out to open teammates. He can also find cutters around the rim in the halfcourt.
4. Jake Skaggs Jake Skaggs 6'6" | SF Los Altos | 2022 State CA-N – Los Altos(Los Altos, CA) 2022
Skaggs is a forward who can help stretch the floor with his outside shooting. He’s a pretty good shoot from distance. He’s a good defensive player who provides rim protection and contests shots well. He also makes a lot of hustle plays; he dives after loose balls and has a strong motor. Uses his size well to finish at the rim. He can also put the ball on the floor at times. He has a very methodical game; paces himself well.
