Continue ReadingIt has been some time but finally, there is basketball back in Connecticut. Things are slightly different. Players are wearing masks, there are limited media and selective parents in the bleachers. I missed the roar of the audience during a big dunk or game-changing play but what’s most important student-athletes have the opportunity to do what they love in a safe structured environment. Although Notre Dame was able to win comfortably I, personally, was happy to cover hoops in New England again.
Notre Dame Standouts
Evan Scott-Alexander, 6’0″ Point Guard – Evan is a sturdy built left-handed point guard who looks like a running back. He’s quick off the dribble which he uses to blow by defenders and penetrate into the paint. In the early stages of the game, he got downhill and exploded to the rim for an impressive dunk. He’s a sneaky athlete who can also step out to the perimeter and knock down the three.
Justin Davis Justin Davis 6'0" | PG Notre Dame Prep | 2021 State NLG , 6’0″ Point Guard – Justin has the reputation of being a microwave scorer but I was impressed with his court vision and ability to create for others. He used his shiftiness, speed, and quickness to draw a number of fouls. Justin and Evan shared point guard duties throughout the game silently highlighting their versatility and commitment in the backcourt.
Jon Edwards, 6’4″ Wing – Jon found different ways to make an impact on the game stuffing the stat sheet. He finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists. He played with a ton of energy from start to finish being active on the glass. If he wasn’t controlling rebounds he was managing to keep the ball alive. Jon showcased his versatility as a ball-handler along with the ability to get downhill drawing a number of fouls.
Woodstock (Blue) Standouts
Jayden Beloti, 6’4″ Wing – He was able to penetrate putting pressure on the defense as a passer and scorer. Throughout the night he anticipated passing lanes gathering a number of steals and deflections. Overall, he had a solid game finishing with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.
Ethan Edwards, 5’11″ Point Guard – After going down by a large amount Ethan was the voice of positivity. It was an underrated leadership quality that gave the team a competitive boost. He has a quick first step which supported his ability to get downhill. Ethan has the strength to finish through contact. He had a good court presence and awareness understanding how to attack closeouts while making the right play.
Levi King, 6’5″ Wing – Levi was one of the best on-ball defenders in the game causing a number of turnovers. He has strong defensive instincts crowding ball handlers and disrupting the flow of the offense.
Kyle Alcy Kyle Alcy 6'8" | PF Woodstock | 2021 State NLG , 6’8″ Forward – In limited minutes, because of foul trouble, the tall wiry forward was able to contest shots in the paint. He showed soft touch around the rim while controlling a number of offensive rebounds.
